moving to omaha, anyone around there?

i'm moving to omaha in about a week, but i'm not taking my 7 as i heard they salt the roads so i was going to wait til spring time and have it shipped. Anyways i just wanted to say hello to any of you guys in the area and see if there are any good shops or tracks in the area. And how do the roads fare there this time of year?

Hi Joe,

There are several of us on here from Omaha. The main ones I know are Bheiman, Sgt. Blue, FitzRX7, Flaresniper, Claborn1, supraturbo1987, brian, rotorballs, rotarymarine, power hungry, pealryellow and a few others that I can't think of at the moment.

Good call on not bringing the 7 yet, we just had a fair amount of snow and theres a bunch of salt/gravel on the road right now.

I'm hoping that we may actually be able to get a meet going sometime this year. A few months ago we had one, and it wasn't a terrible turnout, but not the best.

As far as tracks go, you'll probably be disappointed, but the nearest track is about 3 hours away, unless you want to go to an 1/8th mile track.

Shops? We don't need no stinkin shops. j/k But it seems like a lot of us do our own work, Jon (fitz) and Jim know their stuff when it comes to FD's. I believe trev (supra) is rebuilding his engine on his own.

thanks for the info papio, i generally try to do my own work, but i'm going to be extremely limited on tools and other resources. i was looking more on the terms of some kind of local autocross, not sure if you were referring to a drag strip or not. glad there's some knowledgeable fd guys around, i've had mine for about a year but it's a lot more complex than my old t2. look forward to a meet though, hopefully with my car but even without.

The local division of SCCA holds autocross fairly often, about twice a month IIRC. The tracks I was referring to are drag strips, but MAM also has a decent road course from what I've heard.

people are working on getting a 1/4mile dragstrip here

there are quite a bit of Fd's here for the amount of people in omaha

there is one guy that is building a 3 rotor, fitz is probobly the fastest fd right now. Brian1 probobly will be fastest if he ever gets it back from gotham...

so for fd's we got
fitz
brian1
sgtblue's is pretty stock, but its CLEAN as can be.
There is a Gunmetal fd somwhere around here, he usually shows up at world of wheels every year.
Clayborne's fd is stock
94rotorTT is pretty stock, his dad has a pretty sick supra
there is some other kid with an FD that is around
there is a guy with an fd i met once, he is an engineer at Oriental trading company, i dont know anything else really
wearjoy's 3 rotor
pearl yellow's
i know there are a bunch more

Mine is currently in rebuild stage, im putting on a holeset h1e

I asked steve if he would come to omaha if I got enough people together. He said "doenst it snow in Omaha" and then he laughed and changed the subject. Thats my funny steve kan story.

Hi Joe.
Wow, tough time for a move to the mid-west from Northern California, but welcome anyway. My car's also in storage now since we do sand and salt here and it won't be coming out now until late March/early April.
As for tracks, Mid-America Motorplex ("MAM") is the closest track, about 20 minutes from my home. http://midamericamotorplex.com/2006/default.asp. Another is opening soon (or is now open) in Hastings, just a couple of hours west on I-80. http://www.racemph.com/
We're about 3 hours or so north of Topeka KS., the SCCA's headquarters and where the SOLO national championships are now held. KANSAS CITY SPEEDWAY is also just down I-29.
I'm a rookie autocrosser myself. http://www.nrscca.com/
As for tools and know-how, I can probably help with the tools, but still learning like everyone else. Glad to help in anyway I can though.
PM me when you get in town.

not to totally hijack a thread but
what is that supposed to mean?

i was just wondering for the future
its good to know though

i will probobly try and figure it out myself anyways, but between trying to get ahold of dieselgeek(a guy that has done close to 100 megasquirts and currently is working for spectre helping make Their Phantom EMS) and going to a steve kan tuning session, it just might be easier for the steve kan tuning session

Welcome to the neigborhood Robert. Nice car. As Mike (papiogxl) will tell you, I love FC's too. I'm the fossil of the local group... the token old guy. You can guess from my avatar what I do for a living but I'm still usually tolerated by the others.
Hope to meet you guys soon. I'll buy the first round.
