July 21 BBQ Meet/Event at Autobahn Country Club, IL
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yup that's right, BBQ meet at a TRACK.
YOU DON'T NEED TO DRIVE ON TRACK TO ATTEND!! It is a family day too so if you have a wife and/or a little one, bring them with. There would be activities for the kids too. So far couple local shops have already committed so the turnout should be good.
It would be exactly the same as any other BBQ meet in parks or parking lots, only difference is that in addition to the regular hang outs and car chats, there will also be cars or race cars running on track for you to spectate. This meet is actually taking spaces from the NASA Midwest event and they welcome all of us to come.
PIC Performance (www.picperformance.com) will be hosting the BBQ. They will bring grill, drink, food, and we bring people and cars. Since there would be racing and driving on track, no alcoholic beverages would be allowed until the track goes cold.
And of course, if you want to drive on track, you are more than welcome to sign up the NASA event also. If you just want to hang out, or don't even have a car, it's absolutely fine too.
Location:
Autobahn Country Club
3795 South Patterson Road
Joliet, IL 60436
(Very close to Rt66 Raceway)
Date:
Saturday July 21, 2007
Time:
Technically the event starts at 8am, but BBQ is around 11:30am. So you can show up early and catch the practice and qualifying sessions; or come later, enjoy lunch and catch the actual race actions at around 3:00pm. At around 5-6pm the track goes cold and there would be free banquet and beer at the track. If you're willing to stick around for that long, you would be rewarded with an awesome evening party.

For those who are interested in driving this track, here is the in-car video of me racing there last year:

Here's the in-car video from another driver in the exact same race. At the 10-min mark, I got in front of him and stayed in his video screen for the rest of the race:

Ok guys I'm keeping my fingers crossed and really hoping to make it out this time!! I'll try everything to be there! I was just talking to my wife about how the season is so far gone and the car has spent the majority of it just sitting because of one small problem or another and how I want to get out and drive it and how I would love to go to some of the meets. I really look forward to meeting all the guys from RC3 and Chicago in general. Lets hope all goes well for me to get there!!
I just checked the website, HPDE Group 1, 2, 4 and Time Trials are SOLD OUT!!
Only Group 3 left (advance).
They *might* offer a lunch time parade session for all visitors. With a speed limit and a pace car, everyone can get out there to see how the track is like in their minivan, SUV or whatever. They did that for Grattan. Hope they would do that again this weekend.
