How can I get on the road?

Ok so i recently found out that the emissions parts were removed from my car. I have heard that if you go to a shop and spend like $400 and have recipts to prove it, that when you go to pass emissions and you fail that if you show them that you have spent the money to try to pass, they will give you a 1 year waiver for emissions. Is this true?

I am desperate to get on the road and need to know what to do. any help will be greatful.

Thanks, Tim

Tim,

Here is the site of the company that performs the testing; http://www.gatewaycleanair.com/

If you fail the initial test. Then you must improve your emissions on the 2nd test to obtain a waiver, along with spending some cash... that is if it does not pass the test. I don't recall the exact amount but I believe it varies based on the year of the car. An important point to remember is; the repairs must be performed by a certified shop.

They do have a brochure at the testing stations that spell out these requirements.

The good news is beginning in September 2007 cars 1995 and older will not require emissions testing.

What parts were removed exactly? Is your car an n/a or turbo and what year is it? I have an ACV for an 88 turbo and n/t I believe. as well as an egr valve. I also have an airpump somewhere from an 88 n/t as well. Let me know if you need any of these parts or if you would just like to borrow them to try and pass emissions. Let me know.
It really doesn't matter though, my car has no emissions equipment on it except for the main cat that was welded in from a local muffler shop (like $125) and an electric airpump from an older chevy hooked right up to the cat(like $40-$70 on ebay, do a search for smog pump ls1, or lt1) and mine passed missouri emissions.
