Help installing Side Seals for Rebuild (Olathe, Overland Park are)
I have an issue, and no matter how much of a dumbass this makes me sound like I need help. I'm trying to finish up my rebuild on my Turbo motor, and am having the hardest time trying to get the side seals in. I understand that they come oversized from the factory and need to be cut to a certain specification. I decided to try and do this by site being the idiot that I am and trying to rush things, and am sure I cut them to short. On top of that some go in the groove farther then others? This is just the biggest pain, maybe it's that I'm just absolutely retarded but I had no issues with anything else until this. Well, now that that's out, I have a friend who owes me for some parts who I can get the extra side seals from, because I'm really tight on money and I need to finish my car before February when I leave for UTI. Needless to say I really don't have enough money to take this to Jessie in Topeka, or Nelson from Modified by KC to help me with these seals. So, I was wondering if there's anyone in the Overland Park or Olathe Area or any of the outlying areas that would be willing to help me? I just need to get the seals into spec and into the rotor, then other then that and eventually getting some help setting the endplay (don't have the correct equipment) I think I should be good. Please someone help me out who's done this before, I really need this it's been a long tough time trying to get this car together and the engines the last real big thing I need to get done. If you can help just reply on here or shoot me a text at (913)731-5528 the names Matt (having trouble recieving calls, you can try though). I would appreciate it so much and I could at least take you out to lunch or give you what money I can. Thanks alot for any help you can give, I'm free on Sunday afternoon, and all day next Monday or Thursday. Would really like to get this done as soon as possible so I can get the car broke in and the kinks worked out. Thanks so much again to anyone who can help or point me in the right direction, and sorry this was so long.
random question... how clean are your side seal grooves? From my rebuild and the motors i have parted, once the grooves are clean you can slip new side seals in with out a problem. If you fucked up your side seals contact Japan2LA on here and buy some used side seals. I have yet to see a side seal that was not reusable.
its very simple to do. just keep shaving them down until the fit nicely. DO NOT do it by eye. you will be very sorry if you do...
place a piece of sandpaper down on something flat. then rub the end on there. test fit and check clearence. when they are with in specs. your done. if you dont understand. buy one of the various rotary rebuild DVD's out there. I bought one wayyyy back before i ever knew what a rotary engine was. and used it later for my first build. you'll get your moneys worth out of it.

I had the same issue with mine being oversized as well. The grooves were cleaned but the seal were just too big. I did the sand paper thing as mentioned above. Just kept taking off a little at a time till the fit nicely.
