Grip/Drift events in Chicago?

Hey guys, I've been online searching, trying to find some local events, but everything I find ends up being way far south in Illinois, or they're in Ohio or something. SCCA has some events, but they're in Rantoul, IL, and that's a 4+ hour trip for me, and ClubFR hasn't been touched in half a year.

So I'm just wondering, where are some sites that have a calender of events for the Chicago area or something like that? I'm down for pretty much anything, but I'd like to be able to go to the event, have my fun and go home in the same day because my work schedule is rather tentative and can change in a minute. So anything going down in the suburbs, in around town, or an hour or two away?

Thanks guys.

Hi my kid has an FC and a Civ hatch he is building for autocross and roadracing he has a ton of info you may want to hook up with him since you only live about 4miles apart at the most(across from Chapple Hill Golf Course).

well Club FR go into the forums, they just had a 2 day drift event.. and i think it was up at road america... also check at NASA.org, its like the scca, but they run HPDE, an on track school. they run at a few tracks around northern IL. the closest being blackhawk farms, near rockford, or the autobahn track in Joliet.

Haha, yea, I saw that drift event. Well, I saw it like 3 days before it happened and I thusly proceeded to kick myself numerous times. I was still breaking in my new clutch on my 240 and tweaking the transmission, and the FC is still out of order, so even if I could've managed to get out of work and everything, it would've been less of a learning situation and more of me constantly yelling at my car to quit sassing me.

I actually know a couple stewards in the SCCA, and some racers in some other league I can't remember, but they're all involved in the more experty crap, and I'm just looking to wet my feet at this point. And I've been to all the "local" tracks, but they just don't cater to anything other than pros or big groups with oodles of money. It just seems like, at least to me, that unless you have gobs of money and time, it's damn near impossible to get into motorsports while you live up/out here. But thanks for the ClubFR forum idea, I didn't think of that earlier. I'll be sure to keep a close eye on that.

And ilostmypistons, feel free to PM your son's contact info, he sounds like someone who might know something to do around here. I'd be very grateful for that.

Thanks guys! And keep the suggestions coming!

Alright, just let me know when he's back. I've been getting some responses from other boards as well, so I'm thinking we could do some meets, events and whatevers available now and then next year, when things get more serious, I've got some contacts for a team and future events.

Thanks guys, and if there's anymore people up here or events going down, feel free to post them up.
