the rx7 trany is suppose to fit well inplace of the sammis if i remember right, something about it mating to the transfer case easily and the shifter being in the same position. many of the guys who do the swap do use a rx7 trany of some sort. rolf i still got 2 spare s4 N/A tannys u can have one 4 free if u find that it will work and chose to go this rout.

it will work........very easily and will be easier than making a plate and getting the clutch done up. the other guy i talked to did this i believe. my main worry was the ratios but they look to be similar.

yeah i see,
so does the sami have a seperate transfer-case post tranmission?

sorry i was assuming the transfer was built into the trans itself..

I have a trans from a 1980 RX-7 which would have the shifter closer to the box.. instead of the "remote-shift" boxes Mazda used from 81-91. incase that would be the type you would need...

Keith, if you have spare trans.. you may want to talk to rob about that...
oh and rob, i still have that 626 trans for the FB... and a couple spare TII trans.

it shouldn't be a big deal

ALL Mazda RX type transmissions are EASY to mount... (I've made my own billet aluminum mounts and crossmembers for years)

then once you get an engine/trans in there.. then take the sammy short shaft out..

and take it to fort wayne clutch with a N/A drive-shaft.. and have them cut and paste them.. so the resulting drive-shaft is the correct length..

Ratio's???

it doesn't really matter there.. infact... you'd want a trans geared more for the engine you are using..

I would imagine that the sammy engine doesn't have near the usible power-band the rotary does..

more-over... due to torque multiplication, you'll end up with more torque at the wheels using the mazda trans.. wasn't thinking about that the other day, but now it makes alot of sense..

Sammi ratios 1st 3.652 2nd 1.947 3rd 1.423 4th 1.000 5th 0.795
RX-7 GSL-SE 85 3.622 2.186 1.419 1.000 0.715
RX-7 Base 86-91 3.476 2.002 1.366 1.000 0.711

....thats what i dug up...but ur right about wanting a tranny geared for the engine and the T case is seperate. did any of the 7s come with spring clutchs? the sammi has a spring clutch not a big deal jw?

rob,

another big point of what i was talking about today at lunch is to help make car guys more universal.. i guess

so you don't have division lines between subaru mazda, mustang, import domestic

car guys... who like to really race... and that's it...

so i don't feel awkward showing up to RX-7 meats in my scoob...
and so RX-7 guys like yourself can feel welcomed coming to a meat with guys who happen to drive subarus...

besides the race aspect.. it will help band together.. locally these types of people..

foller me their???

let me know some of your thoughts..

Hey, sorry to threadjack here, but I figured this would be the best place to ask. I'm looking to by an FD in the midwest area. I'm currently located in Southern Indiana, but will be making a drive January 1st up to work in Detroit. I figured right now I'd try to find some cars to stop and look at on the way up. I'm specifically looking for a chassis or non-running LS1. Color and spec is not of priority, but lack-of-rust and condition is. PM me if you have any details. I appreciate it. Once again sorry for the thread-jack.

that is only the first part of it..

the rest is that it is a semi-local, exclusive "club" if you will..
designed to keep riff-raff and ricers out.

which requires that you be socially accepted or "voted in" by its members..

AND

you spend at very minimum 10% of your life at ACTUAL auto racing events.

or about 36 event DAYS per year!!!

1 autoX day counts for 15%.
so if you do one thing a week... you'll run at a 15%

so out of 52 weeks a year... you should have 36 events...
which gives like 16 weekends off.... or you can do a two-day event (ala 2-day autoX, 2 diff autoX, a lapping session etc) to yeild an additional weekend off..

this is the rough draft of it at least.

I would hope he was more badass considering I'd do nothing but embarass myself out there. Like Calvin hitting a million cones or something.
