Sounds like a good job for you Rob, but will you get to do any racing yourself?

The whole reason I moved out here is to work on rotaries. Are you going to be in long beach the whole week or just flying back and forth? It is a pretty far drive, but I'd imagine my room mate wouldn't have any issue letting you crash here if need be. That is the same week my parents and grandparents will be here as well though.

Right on. I'll try to convince my parents and grandparents to go to Long Beach during one of those weekends. I'm sure I could convince them that they'd love it out there...then just kind of head directly to the track.

Working on any race car is job security. Regardless of engine type.

We should set a date for a meet within the next couple months.

If gas prices don't hit $5 a gallon I might. I'm regretting swapping to the jdm trans. Shorter 5th gear has killed my gas mileage lol

Not sure why others are getting them... But I have found that it is more expensive to get a good aluminum underdrive serpentine setup than one of these kits, Especially for what I stole this one for... plus it just sounds sweet. Lol

Next question (and I'm not being a dick here, just curious):

Why do you want to under drive a 13B? I know the stock alternator is barely adequate for the electrical system brand new, let along ~20 years old, and I recall the water pump not exactly being "amazing" either. It'd seem like the 3-4 HP you get from under driving those (which is probably sapped back off by the tension required by a gilmer drive) is probably not worth the risk to the rest of the system.

Most of my experience with gilmer setups like that is on blower cars, but I know in those instances they are hard on bearings for all parts involved also. (due to tension and leverage on the end of the shafts) Any concerns with that on the rotary setup?

Is there something I'm not aware of here? My rotary knowledge is rusty, considering it's been almost 10 years since I played with them, but cooling/power is pretty universal.

I am aware of the issues with power steering delete and needing to add more belt area on the water pump to keep everything happy, and the dual belt/serpentine stuff that way. The gilmer just seems like such an odd way to get there to me.

Oh, and I do agree, they do sound/look cool.

One of the reasons the cooling system sucks so bad is due to the velocity of the coolant through the engine being too high. larger water pump pulley helps slow things down. if the drive pulley is reduced in diameter it would also help but then the alternator would see fewer rpms as well possibly causing it not to charge at idle. to compensate for that the smallest alternator pulley possible would be good. from your pic Keith i am not sure if you will have charging issues or not as a DD
