yaay i get to pull my engine down AGAIN...... this is getting ridiculous

three different issues now

1. cracked from iron. figured that out and solved issue
2. bent all three apex seals on rear rotor. figure that issue out too
3. now think it ate side seals on front rotor for no apparent reason ......

well had a torrington fail in the front stack. and im assuming after that happened the rest of the damage occurred. the front stat gear bearing is almost gone and the front rotor touched down on the tips and stuck two apex seals. luckily it didnt damage my brand new rotor housings though.

its crazy though how it acted just like it had a broken side seal. never had any vibrations from the engine bay or any smoke before it just went all at once.

not really sure what causes a torrington to break in half. unless some how i messed something up during assembly and it pinched and just took awhile to finally come apart. half of it was in the oil pan in pieces with all the bearing material form the stat gear, and the other half was still in there. prob the only thing that stopped it from doing any more real damage from crank walkin around.

I've destroyed a torrington on a fresh build once.. it's not hard lol.. I now quadruple check that shim/spacer **** before torquing the front pulley down. apparently double checking isn't enough. i learned the hard way to buy a dial indicator and magnetic base to test the end play.

Did you check the float after the assembly?

i have an e shaft id let go for 20 bucks. a thread on the end of the shaft got bent when i hit the back of it with a mallet to pop the flywheel off, may be fixable.. would be nice if i had a die that size. its hard to get accurate torque spec but its a nice e shaft. im sure u can find another shaft though

Rob I have a really nice pair of s4 turbo rotors. But they are cut for 3mm apex seals. Not sure if that is something you would want...

Got most of my car put back together. Just have to bolt up the converter and fill the transmission and it should run again. Been too busy building other people's stuff to work on my own.
