desperate need of a car club in stl area

hello everyone. i want to get a car club together based here in st. louis, mo. Regular meets, car cruises and special events for everyone to do together as club members.

Got a good friend thats part of Gateway Z club. Its a great organization. It would be nice if all rx7 owners could get together, talk cars, plan events, get vendors to help out, and parts swapping. we could plan new products and help newbies like me.

some of you may know charles ( red fd made 420whp at like 10 to 14 psi last Kan tune), well hes got his own dual oil cooler he came up with that i'm interested in.

There would be alot to gain from regular meets and for the better of our cars.

I'm willing to take charge along with anyone who would like to help me and initiate a st.louis or midwest area rx7 club. We're all pretty devoted to this forum. I see potential for all rx7 owners on here working together do what we love doing. Helping each other out, driving, planning track events, road trips, shows, dinners, and whatever options club members can give.

Think about it.

i'm ready whenever you are. so if you wanna get together and start planning get back to me.

I'm willing to initiate initial meetings. Get members on this forum together. and non members of this forum to come out. Rx8s welcome. close freinds. just whatever seems fit to get a club rolling.

been living here 4 yrs now and i think its needed.

Lets see what we can work out.

My names Reggie.

no prob guys. i'm still gonna give this an effort. Theres gotta be positive people who agree with me.

and eric cheetam, i don't recall askin if i could be a part of anything you're doing or what club you're talking about.

i know theres alot of guys on this forum that have been getting together for years. Thats very fortunate for you all. and it must be nice. Definately something i commend as i wish to acheive the same.

Fail? I'll let God be the judge of that. Really his opinion is all that matters. Life is and has been nothing but sucess for me.

I work too hard doing what i do and for what I ask of Him. Failure is non existant. Mistakes exist, but not failures.

Hey guys, I'm totally down for somebody trying to get an organized club going in STL ... like I used to do years ago. More get-togethers is good for everybody, even if some aren't your cup of tea.

If you want to do it Reggie, I'd say go for it. Just make sure and plan everything equally with the RX-8 guys ... and bring other car clubs in if you want. Just not the Supra guys

Cool!
I am with you Soulgrind.

A pure drivers' club should be fun!

As you know, talk is cheap.
Most of these forum jumpers probably do not even have running cars.
Dirving their mothers' mini vans... hahaha!

You should not waste your time posting in the forum.

Just select the meeting date, place, time and post it on various car club sites and see who shows up!

See you at the meeting!

Interested, post up a meeting date and place. Don't let a couple of guys discourage ya, true rotary heads/enthusiasts will come out and share thier knowledge, parts, tools or lend a hand to newbs.

The whole point of an organized group is growing the club and reaching out to the guys who are on the fence about coming to a meet or not. If they feel like they're not in the 'group', they're not going to come. But having a variety of events gives everybody something to do that they'll enjoy, and gets more people into the group.

There's no reason to get defensive about it Eric, you can come or not ... it's totally up to you with each event. And you can still hang out with whoever, whenever you want.

The bottom line is if we're ever going to have events like we did back in the 90's, with 50+ cars all in one spot, it has to be organized. We have to reach out to people with all sorts of interests, and we have to plan events that are wife friendly.

I'd say the first event we plan for the offical club should be something at a park, totally laid back and casual. Forest Park or Tower Grove Parks are good, plenty of parking space and central so we can get the IL guys to come. Dyno days at Tuxedo Park totally rock, and the RX-8 guys are missing out by not coming. But the fact is they feel intimidated by the 7 guys. Whether you think it's stupid or not, that's the fact and we need to find ways to get them over that.

There's a lot of work to plan something like this Reggie. First you gotta go to the parks and scout out areas with enough parking, find a pavillion number you like then call the Parks Service about a month ahead of time and reserve it. Then you need to promote it on both sites, you'll have to post directions and answer people's PM's with questions. You need to get as many phone numbers as possible at the first meet, and keep adding to the list as often as you can ... also make an email mailing list. Then in addition to forum posts, you have to call and email everybody on the list a couple weeks ahead of time, then a week ahead of time, then a day or two ahead of time. It's a lot of work, but if you want people to make time for you in their busy schedules, you gotta keep reminding them like crazy. And then when the event actually happens, 80% of the people who tell you they will come won't. But you can't let that deter you if you want to make the club into something.

So Reggie, here's the steps if you want to do it:

- Post a new thread here and on RX-8 club. Post your email address and phone number, tell people if they want on the list to send you their info. I've posted my personal cell phone here 1000 times, it's nothing to worry about.
- Go to the parks and scout out a pavilion that'll work for 20-30 cars, call the Parks Service and find out what Saturdays are available.
- Start a new thread with the available dates, make it a poll and ask people to vote on the date.
- After a winning date is picked, call back and reserve the area.
- Then promote it like crazy, email - phone - forum posts. Pick a firm time to be there, and have a plan for what's going on that day. If you want people to eat there, ask for volunteers to bring certain food things and keep track. Then you yourself will have to bring some stuff as well.
- Day of the event you'll need to get to the area first, park your car where everybody can see it and keep your cell phone on your in case people get lost.
- I can give you some people to talk to about getting freebies to give away at the event.

Like I said, a lot of work. Don't do it unless you're ready to keep doing it for a couple years.

Ryan - I don't think it's just that the RX-8 guys are necessarily intimated by the RX-7 guys - I have repeatedly invited them to events (not just tuning) and even offered up my shop for a meet, and never even received a response. They seem to have their own little clique, and it is reserved for RX-8 owners. Do you remember way back when the 1st and 2nd gen guys used to bitch about 3rd gen owners being snobs who wouldn't even give a wave to a fellow rotary enthusiast? Just like FD owners back then, I don't think the bulk of RX-8 guys are really enthusiasts, just new rotary owners. Look at how they continue to beat the same tired issues to death that we used to on the big list (synthetic oil, for example). The RX-8 guys (and gals) will come around, but for now I wouldn't blame the Cheatham and Divine show for the lack of RX-8 attendance...

As far as a new or revived rotary club in St. Louis, I am all for it. I unfortunately don't have much time anymore for a day at the park or drive up the river road, but I could probably be persuaded to do some small sponsership and/or host something if it was really going to happen. I frankly share Eric's skepticism at the moment, but will be happy if I am proven wrong.

Steven

I've met with the 8 guys enough to know they're simply intimidated by the 7 guys, and the perception they have of unwelcome-ness from 7 owners. Nobody said anything about blame, I'm just saying how it is for whatever reason. And just about every single one of them I've talked to has either done a few mods already, or has a list of mods planned they want to do.

It doesn't matter if you think they're retards for feeling that way, if you want them to come out, you have to deal with it and find ways around it. What I've done is met with them myself so they at least they know me.

I didn't say or mean to imply in any way that anyone was a "retard", nor do I feel that way. As you may recall, I think it's pretty reasonable to say that I am an "RX-8" guy too, after all...

I know Steve I didn't say that you think they're retards ... I was speaking generally, towards no-one inparticular.

I guess I missed out on the "old days". But I'd really be intersted in a group of people that enjoy what they have.

I was on one cruise with him mike and tony.

There was the BBQ that I went to with chuck. Tomm lived a mile away so I not to know him a but before he moved.

Right now I'm looking for a cheap fun 7 but nothing is in my range. I loved the last one I had and I miss it a ton!

Petot (if you mean him) is now married, moved, and may be shopping for baby items for the near future
I'll get back to the subject at hand when I have a few more moments. I helped start the "Gateway RX-7 Club" back in the early '80s, before I too ran out of much time. Of course back then it was all 1st Gens
I'd participate if I could work it into the "SCCA schedule".
