If you have fuel and spark then it should run even if the timing is crap. If I was you I would time it, or atleast get it as close as you can. Then try some starter fluid in the intake and see if it catches. If it does you have a fuel problem. If thats the case check your fuel pump and lines.

rotarys do that here and there; I had an 82 and and 83, one I had modified with a bridgeported engine and not going to be giving details here as it's about the 82 that don't start. If you have spark, if you have fuel, don't know when you started the car last but if you leave a rotary engine sitting for more than a week and don't start most of the times what I used to do even before aI try starting the car I would open the hood and by hand I would run the engine backwards and what tha does it releases the apex seals, now if you already tried that already and when you try starting the car and all you hear is the car whining and you do not see the revolution (rpm's) needle go up and down then your apexx seals are stuck and you then have to give a shot of oil 10-30 would be fine thru the carburetor primary and what that does it gives the apex seal a better seal that you will see the rpm needle go up and you'll get compresion on your rotors, now when the car starts it will someke like hell.DO NOT TURN IT OFF until you see the smoke clear and when that clears then rev the car a few time to clear the secondaries on the carburetor. Now another thing is that when you start a rotary engine and move it even if it is a few inches once you started that engine either you have to let the engine run until is fully warm or before you shut it off then you have to rev the car at least three times upto at least 3,000 rpms and then shut it off without having it wind down, that will clear the fuel off the rotors and will not flood. This is a common problem with rotary engine specially after the have been over 70k miles. I have an RX8 and I totaly forgot about this because it's a brand new car and guess what? YES, it did to me and pissed me off because I was running late to work that day, but got it started and now always do it whether I run it forever or just for a few minutes to play it safe. Good luck, if anything I have a 12a rotary engine from a 1985 RX7 modified, it's bridgeported, nitrous ready all you need is a Holley 650 carb or a 750 and ready to go. This engine was built by a friend of mines from Chicago and the same set up is running 11's in a 1/4 mile. Hopefull you have your car running right away.

sounds like it's flooded. Pull the plugs and the EGI fuse and crank it for a bit, then replace everything and try again.

This is easier:

Unplug fuel pump fuse, crank with gas pedal to floor. It should start and run for a bit to get the gas burnt out. Then replace fuse and crank it again without the gas pedal being touched. Use choke if still equipped.
