Can't take it anymore
So after 8 years of driving NOTHING but rotaries, eating, drinking and sleeping tuning theory and everything else, I QUIT. The rotors win, I lose. For no reason apparent to me, my FD popped an o-ring and started to get hot. I got her home and cleaned out my personal belongings and listed her for sale here and within a few hours agreed to sell the car and everything I own that has anything to do with third gens. The car is leaving next Saturday, and I intend to get very drunk and party like crazy after it leaves.
Its been real fun hanging out and talking rotors, but its time for me to move on. I will still be around to help out from time to time, but you can pretty much plan on seeing me driving anything but a rotor motor.
I just thought I would say goodbye here.
Bye Bye
Jeff

What's that all about?
You have NO IDEA about my issues with rotaries. Mostly 'cause I don't bitch and moan about my cars and their problems in public.
Suffice it to say that over the years, which after a quick recount come to almost 10 years of driving, racing and wrenching on nothing but rotaries, and aside from the usual automotive problems, I have lost 4 engines to coolant seal issues (2 FCs and 2 FDs (which is why I know this is a coolant O ring issue) and one engine to detonation (FD).
I have changed out 6 engines in my own car with help from some of the best friends a guy can have. I have damn near memorized the FSMs (all three of them for the FD) and I have spent countless hours helping others here through their tuning and electrical problems....
I learned how to avoid engines going bang by carefully learning to tune and making sure my car was safe and still keep her performance levels as high as almost anyone else on the forum.
On the other hand, and despite a completely new cooling system (everything from aluminum radiator to hoses, hose clamps, thermostat, water pump, new sensors and backup after market gauges and a wholly "new to me" block) I cannot lick the O-ring problems. The only remaining untried solution are those $1500 O rings and I am not THAT in love with rotaries.....
THAT's what that is all about......

Jeff, I just can't believe you've broken all these coolant seals. Don't you think you should atleast do a pressure test before letting it go? I really hate to see you give up although I completely understand

Chris. For now I just picked up a 1994 325i convertible, chipped for an extra 30 HP (about 225 claimed HP), a complete M style body kit, 18 inch Armano wheels and lowered 2 inches from stock. She drives well and handles surprisingly tight. She weighs about 3300 lbs ( a bit chubby) A good daily driver in good to excellent condition with a full sound system. She gets about 26 mpg, and cost me less than I could believe. Sure she is no Rx7 in acceleration or cornering, but she is no pig either, not likely to blow an O ring or spit an apex seal. So for now, I think I will just kind of chill out with this one.

I wish I knew that your M3 were available. I really always liked that car.
PM me though with a bottom line price I may know someone else VERY interested.
Jeff
BTW mine is NOT an M3, just an M3 wannabe with a more realistic pricetag.

We all know you'll have a rotary again someday. You might as well keep hanging out with us in the meantime.
