Autocross in St. Louis, 2008
The St. Louis region SCCA holds autocross events about 10 Sundays each year (March through October) and would like to extend an invitation to our group to join in 1 or more events. We could all grid together and could compete among ourselves (as well as with all the others). If you think you might be interested let me know. I'll keep everyone informed of the dates that they will be holding their events (as soon as they are known). If there is sufficient interest (10+ ?) maybe we can get some sort of group discount. These events are usually at the giant parking lot at Gateway International Raceway in Ill. across the river from St. Louis. Typical cost is $35-$40 for the day. Street tires are OK but if you have R-compound tires that's even better.

There will be a novice class held in march which is a great class and I encourage you to go. All you need is an approved helmet (they will have some loaners) and your car. Last year the cost was $80.00 for the entire day, which included lunch, and we each got 2 vouchers to be used at events during the year ($35.00 value each). Not sure of the cost for 2008 nor if they will offer vouchers, but you will have great fun if you go.

Here in STL we have a "street tire class" that you can register in. You would still need to specify the class your car would run in if you were in a regular class but you will be competing against all other cars in the "street tire" class. The class is scored by the "index" (handicap) time so it is quite possible for a Miata to beat an fd or a Corvette.

The novice school will be April 6th and there will be a Test & Tune (i.e., day of fun racing, no points that day) on March 15th or 23rd. You should come out for the Test & Tune just to get a feel for it and then for the novice school to maximize your start for the year. What car do you plan on racing? I can help you get it in the right class and tell you how many competitors were in that class this year.
Year, Make, Model, Turbo, mods (all no matter how trivial, even if you removed trim pieces - it matters!, non-stock wheels, etc.)

So I researched it and found this site:http://www.stlscca.org/ . I think I'm gonna join and try to attend that novice day and go from there, sounds like fun. I have no idea what class my car would be in, I will look into it further.

We have not finalized our fees or our schedule yet. We are still in the negotiation phase with Gateway so the Novice school date may change. But it looks like out first event will be April 6 so plan on coming out and having fun. I will be there with my 87 RX7 "F" Prepared car. Hopefully it will be a bit faster than last year but budget limitations may not allow all the changes we would like to make. We may even have a passenger seat in it so if you see one feel free to ask for a ride. I any event, please stop by the car and introduce yourself. I will do my best to show you around and help get you pointed in the right direction.

I usually race my Miata but will bring out my fd if we can get a group together. To tell you the truth I'm actually faster in my 88 rwhp Miata than in my fd! Yes, I really did put my Miata on the dyno!

Its very basic really, car must be empty (not even floor mats), must have seat belts that work, under the hood the battery must be secure, the throttle spring must close the throttle when accelerator is lifted, wheels must be secure (if ball joints are bad it won't pass) tries should not show any cords (not be totally wore out) and the trunk should either be empty or the spare tire secure. You must have your class and number on the car (in a contrasting color). You must have an approved helmet (Snell 2000 or newer I think). The helmet will get a sticker after the first inspection and the car will get an annual sticker after 5 inspections (unless things change)
Don't quote me on this but I think I'm pretty close.

It looks as if we have a fairly firm schedule for 2008. There may be changes but they should be minor. Where you see big gaps (June and September) it's because gateway simply wasn't available.
If you're new to the sport the Novice School is an excellent way to begin the season.
Solo All events below are at Gateway Raceway

I want to get in on all the events I can this year. I did not get the car out very much last year; I only made it to 1 autocross event. My wife is on me to get the rx out as much as I can this year so count me in. I need to figure out what class I am in though or what I need to change to be competitive in the class that best suits my car. Where can I find a list of what car type and modifications put me in what class?

Well, I don't know How I'd class. I have a FC with stock suspension, and nothing special with tires. Engine is nearly stock, gasket matched intakes, no cats. When do I need to pony up $$$?
Yeah I know it's slow as crap, but it's still fun to drive.
What helmet do I need this year? I have a DOT FMVSS N.218 full face that's been in my closet for years.

Here are two links to help with car classification.
Non-turbo stock fc should be ES but work through the work sheet (link #2) to be sure.

Here's a link for the 2008 PAX (let me know if you need some help with this).
