Its not a terrible fix. I belive that you simply need to remove all the belts, take the front pully off (careful to hold the torrington bearing in place) and pull the seal out, drive a new one in with some grease on it, put everything back togeather and done.....i would have to check the manual to see if im missing any details...
well, i'm planning on working on my front seal tonight. reseal it and have it sit and cure over night until tomorrow afternoon at the most. and i think i read on the link i provided, that i should have something or someone depressing the clutch. well, hit me back if i'm going to kill my engine doing the wrong thing...

oh yea, i have to drain the coolant and the oil right?

You shouldnt need to drain the coolant. It might be a good idea to drain the oil. I dont know if, shut off, the oil level is up to that seal. I dont think so but its probably a good idea not to find out by poping the seal out without draining the oil.

You will not be able to "reseal" that seal. The fact that it is leaking means it needs replacement and further you will destroy it even more by pulling it out of the front cover. You will need a proper seal driver to get the new one in straight. Its not a terribly easy thing with the engine in the car but it can be done.

Word of advice, dont tackle this without experienced help, especially if this is a daily driver...

And yes you need to have the clutch held to the floor the whole time you have that front pully off.

This is all from memory so please at a minimum read the FSM before you start this at the very least...

Grew up in Buffalo, MN, but moved to Phoenix back in 1987. Planning to head back in early August for my 30 year class reunion. Want to touch base with this guy near lake Minnetonka who owns a CYM 3 rotor. Is the Northstar Rotary group still together and active?

Good Luck! Eveyone talks about it but no one ever shows or wants to host it.

Guys,

Setting up events is a piece of cake. Just post an idea and they will come... (maybe) Does the American Muscle crowd still cruise Brooklyn Blvd Fridays and Saturday nights? Any import hangouts?

Years ago I belonged to Minnesota Street Machine Association (MSMA). Do they still do their "Back to the 60s" event in late August?

Sorry to hear that clubs in the area have kinda lost their 'base' of enthusiasts. I know from experience down here in Phoenix that it's difficult to keep a group motivated to participate. Most of the club 'grunt work' unfortunately falls into the hands of a few individuals who get tired after a while of always being the ones to initiate things.

I was under the impression you were going to replace the front seal. But your last post sounds more like front cover gasket.

If it is the front cover gasket you can use a gasket sealer. I like the Ultra Black personally.

if it is the the front seal. just pull and replace.

Also, if you do the front cover gasket just do both while the cover is off.

I believe the current owner you are referring to is Frank?

Haven't seen that car in about a year or so after he got divorced...

Regarding the club - it has pretty much fallen apart due to core members doing other things and the non-core never doing anything anyhow.

I'm always up for a cruise outside the city limits, preferably on the south side of the cities. Will be taking a cruise up to Elk River on Sat afternoon BTW from Apple Valley.

It takes a little more work. You need to pull the oil pan and the whole front hud to do that. I use ultra grey 999 and I place a stand pipe in the oil metering pump feed hole so no RTV gets in there. Just get it clean and wipe a even film on it and let it set up and your golden. You might as well change the front main seal as long as you are in there.

Hey guys, new RX7 owner here. I'm in Stillwater. I've got a few maintenance things to do as well as the crank seal and possible clutch replacement. Anybody here willing to help, or know someone who can? Or any good shops in the area?

Northstar Rotaries Club

I am not sure if any of the members from the club check in here. I see the club site is down for maintenance.

As I posted at that site earlier this spring, the club still has $1,400 in its checking account just sitting there.

Any ideas on what to do with it?

I have the compression tester sitting in my garage and I don't own a rotary anymore. I have the corner weighing scales also. Any fulltime member from the club want to be responsible for these?

My house is on the market and I don't want to pack/move/unpack these items if it ever sells.

Brian - my input is to distribute the funds to the club members that were last "active" on the site and/or with the club. Pay off any remaining web site costs, admin costs, etc as well.

Regarding the compression tester and corner scales, I don't have a rotary any more either but I'd be willing to hold on to them until a more permanent owner can be found. Have plenty of room and not moving any time soon. PM me your phone number and I'll come over this weekend to pick up.

The house is for sale so a move isnt imminent.

Somebody from the Northstar site earlier mentioned giving the money to the Miata Club. The problem with giving it back is even knowing who was a real member at the end. I do realize that the Club accepted the money as dues and provided very little, but ...

The test is a real compression tester. Paper scroll and needle, not digital.

The corner scales need new scales. The last time we used them we weighed the car on the wrong arm support and crushed the scales.

Kerry, I will let you know if a move is forthcoming and no club member with an actual 7 who would have more use for the stuff steps forward.

Yup... that's the guy! He bought the car from my friend Dick Lambert over in Green Bay. Dick bought the car from a guy who used to build 3 rotors for Cam Worth down at Pettit.

Hope you guys get the club scene moving once again.

Brian/Kerry/other NRR members -

Just an FYI, I have also sold my car.

Another option is to donate the club treasury to some charitable organization. That is what the VSCR club did every year with their excess funds. My vote would be some organization that is helping fund Alzheimer's or Parkinson's research.

Damian or Andy might be good options for the compression tester/scales. I do not see them getting out of the rotary game anytime soon.
