Hey guys, its been awhile. I plan on getting the Greddy Airinx Intake on thrusday, just a question for anyone that has put one on, is it pretty straight forward? Is it as easy as taking off the old tubing and putting on the new? Also i plan on getting a AST finally, any heads up on that too? Do you have to drain coolant before doing it?

Thanks

Don't know about the intake.
But regarding the AST...no you shouldn't have to drain the coolant. Pinch-off the lines, especially the one running to the water-pump/filler neck. If you have one, use a syphon pump to remove as much of the coolant from the AST as you can. If you don't have one, no big deal, just leave the cap on tight and pull off the hoses. A little will drain out but shouldn't be too much and can be cleaned up easily.

Thanks for the response sgtblue. I'll be ordering the intake on thursday and then the ast in 2 weeks. I've heard that the intake is pretty straight forward but would like to talk to someone that has done one.

One more quick question. Right now my car is all stock so i have the BOV and the By-Pass Valve, if i want to get a BOV and put it on the greddy elbow where do all of the hoses connecting to the BOV and By-Pass Valve go? I'm just assuming that the greddy elbow will fit on the stock ic piping.

no, I guarantee you would pull me over if you saw my fc.

Its a black convertible, with a really smashed blue hood. Its a T2 so the hood has a scoop as well, and I still have no exhaust, I guarantee If I drove it, I would violate every emmisions law, and sound law on the road.

not to mention its not plated or insured

Eh. I can't speak for others on the exhaust loudness issue... but personally I use the "HARLEY" rule when deciding if it's too loud. And that just about allows anything quieter than straight pipes at WOT. But then again, I'm an old guy, my hearing isn't what it use to be.
And get that car fixed! A T2 vert sounds awsome.

BTW, Have you or anyone else seen that black widebody FB around town? It looks to be nicely done and solid. LOL, I honked and waived at the guy as we passed near the base, but he looked confused.

I guess so. I'm still running the stock BOV, in it's stock position. I'm guessing , but you could probably block the hose off after the CRV if your putting the BOV in the elbow. But again, I'm not sure, so proceed at your own risk. I think most leave the BOV (even the aftermarket ones) in the stock position. I always thought that it was mostly just the guys that went single who put them on the elbow, but I don't know...
Have you done a search on it yet in the 3rd gen. section? Or maybe post the question there?

If you already have the elbow, I think you'll still have to buy the two piece pipe kit to go with it. The Greddy elbow is much shorter than the stock one.

Yeah sgtblue i figuered out after i asked that question that i would need the intercooler piping in order to get it to work. I also think that u may be right when u say that most people mount it on the elbow if they have single turbo. But if i get a after market BOV should i just leave the By-Pass Valve where it is and just change out the BOV, i'm guessing thats what you would do. I tried a search but didn't find anything and i dont really want to post on the 3rd gen part because i know for sure that they will tell me to search, you guys are willing to help more so i just asked here. Thanks anyways i'll figure it out.

Yes, you would change out only the BOV. The Charge Relief Valve (CRV) has a seperate but equally important function of allowing pre-spool of your secondary turbo. I'm thinking you want that to stay.
Really all the aftermarket BOV is doing is venting to the atmosphere, as opposed to venting into the stock airbox, so everything else would stay the same.

Well, being a master of the obvious, and not knowing squat about FCs.....

The trailing plugs aren't firing, or aren't firing hot enough = coils or bad plugs. Since your obviously getting fuel and bad plugs wouldn't normally fail that quickly, I'd suspect coils.

You may have tried this already, but do you know someone with a set of trailing coils that you could borrow just to try?

sgtblue u said that the only thing the stock bov is doing is venting into the stock airbox, i plan on getting the greddy intake, i'm assuming that the venting into the stock airbox and venting into the greddy intake would be relatively the same thing? Thanks again

Yes. But your aftermarket BOV will just vent into the atmosphere, so if your Greddy intake has a nipple for that hose, you'll have to block it off.

^Edit. I forgot your putting the BOV in the elbow. You'll probably just have to run the hose leading from the CRV (you may have to extend it) into the intake.

Actually since you said that most people only mount it on the elbow with a single turbo i think it would make more sense to agree with u and just leave them in the stock position. Thanks for all the help, intake should be here next week. I stil wanna get to a meeting with some of you guys, the last one never worked out for me i was out of town. Anytime this august should be good.

Sorry I couldn't help Adam. I can't believe that someone hasn't come up with an answer for you in the FC section. Good luck.

BTW, "Thanks" to whoever left me the positive reputation. Apparently someone doesn't like law enforcement and gave some negative to me. Oh well.
