I run the LTX8 and glad I kept it... I can make just as much power as the L10 can make period. I've wanted to switch to a 4bar but if the LT16 does not come out by end of this year. I will switch to AEM

I agree with aaron cake. Spot ON.!

The LT8 is a great ECU. Easy to install, program and very trouble free (ie. no trigger issues). But it's behind the times. Every other ECU can save maps to disk, run closed loop and has a 3D timing table. A code update is needed to bring it into this century.

J-Cee 04-27-08 07:12 PM

i might be sticking my nose where i might not need to but i might switch to something else soon. because i can play with programing with out hooking up the ecu and it has 32x32 maping and loading to disk from what i have read, the manuf whos name may not be mentioned. i do like my lt10s but where is the update that everyone else had before 2003.

sleepydave 05-19-08 05:18 PM

.....sooooooo any word on high rez?

T04Eneedy 05-20-08 11:35 PM

nope no update im sure.probably never will be...

rx72c 05-24-08 05:51 PM

why are you guys waiting for an update?
its not going to come.
microtech are focusing on the lt16 so they can sell it for a ridiculous price. not so they can come true to a promise they made years ago.

im not gona say who but one of the microtech dealrs on this place told me 4 years ago now that the update was with in 3 months. soyeh. that says it all.

Aaron Cake 05-25-08 10:51 AM

I've been hearing the "3 month" story since I purchased my unit...in 2003. One of the reasons I purchased was knowing that Microtech would be providing software updates and enabling more features. In this sense, I feel that Microtech has misled the entire community.

While I am happy with the basic functionality of the ECU, the current timing tables suck (we need a matrix table for that) and resolution of 5" in vacuum is not enough for a smooth tune, good economy and decent throttle response. You need to pick two. Not having closed loop and a wideband input is a real problem as well.

Oh yeah, AND WHY CAN'T I SAVE MY MAPS TO DISK?! Something that EVERY, SINGLE standalone can do.

No7Yet 05-25-08 04:43 PM

Man, I haven't had a rotary anything in years, and I occasionally drop back in just to see if Microtech's released anything new.

Adjustable RPM points, high-resolution maps, user-programmable inputs and outputs, disk storage, 3D ignition maps, ... let's see, what else did they promise us back in 03 ... oh! closed-loop operation, and adjustable-frequency data logging, too, I think. They wanted us to sink $xx,xxx into inventory while they were promising a completely new system "by the end of summer".

Did they ever switch to the Motorola 68000-series processor like I was told they would?

Good Idea

I'm working with my LT-8 at this time it would be good to save and swap all the settings. I have a Mega Squirt in my race car and I set up several maps before the race weekend. I swap them in and out at the track in the hot pit lane. I pull off track pull of the gloves and work with my lap top that is mounted in the car to my right like you see with the cops at the side of the road. After pushing a few buttons I set the data logger and I,m back on track in about 1 minute cracking lap times. I hope they can do this I plan to try this LT-8 in replacement of the Megasquirt. The Megasquirt can be changed to work on most any thing with out sending to any one for changes. So I will reprogram the Megasquirt to operate fuel and spark for a small block Ford in my wife,s Sunbeam Tiger.

Try and set this up guys:icon_tup:

Best Regards

If this also applies to the LT10 then ya it would be great if you could save your different tunes so that you can change it on the fly ex. one for emissions and different ones say for the change in air feet(sea level-6000feet)

im havent got a mircotech but i was looking at the lt10s for my s4 but after reading all this its sorta putting me off what you reakon i should continue down the mircotech path or go somewhere else

Rx7 = Heaven 09-22-08 06:17 AM

i was just on the microtech site and i found this, MicroTech NEW LTS 4 Line Hand Controller and it say You can store up to 4 maps in memory with this new hand controller from MicroTech, ok i m new to these aftermarket computers but is this what you been asking for or something different, if not would this do the same job and allow me to have different maps for like street and strip ect and just load at a push of the button

Rx7 = Heaven 09-23-08 03:46 AM

ok i emailed microtech and this is what they told me when i asked them if it worked the same as saving to a disk and this is what the said "That is correct, you can have up to 4 saved tunes in the memcal on the hand controller. Then it is just a matter of selecting the tune you want to run and going from there. there is a 'how to use' guide that you can also download from the support page on our website, www.microtech-efi.com that will also give you a better idea of the capabilities of the units." so why not buy one these

Aaron Cake 09-23-08 09:57 AM

MEMCALs are a LOT different then save to disk. When tuning a car I'll generate 20 to 50 maps. 4 maps saved to a hand controller/dongle is not nearly the same.

silentblu 09-23-08 05:17 PM

i was going through the archive, someone was trying to make a palm reader/software for the microtech, did they ever get it to work?

yeah thats what i would of thought from all the research i done but when i email microtech thats what the told. i would reakon you would need more then 4 maps

That may have been me?

I've been playing with some software I made to save maps to disk. Saving the Matrix table is easy. Spitting it back to the ECU is a bit more complicated. Maybe I'll dust off my copy of Visual Basic and play with it again...Honestly it's a pain because I don't have a spare ECU and harness. I have to do testing in the car and I don't want to corrupt my current map.

Rx7 = Heaven 09-24-08 05:48 PM

maybe when you make the program you could sell it to microtech for a bit lol:icon_tup:

I would buy one too, but it would be better to make it for Windows-Mobile devices.

Aaron Cake 09-26-08 03:26 PM

It will be free, and run on Windows 95 - XP.

mort2002 09-27-08 06:14 PM

so its not going to be vista compatable....
if not ill down grade my lap top back to XP.
aaron you prolly dont have the ability to make the 32x32 resolution do you?

Thanks
Rob

Aaron Cake 09-28-08 10:44 AM

I have no motivation to support an OS that was dead on arrival. It may work under Vista, may not.

There is no easy way to change the code in the Microtech unit itself. And if someone fluent in assembly actually accomplished it, it's likely that Microtech would sue.

mort2002 09-29-08 12:05 PM

man if i only knew all of this before i bought my microtech... :(

Aaron Cake 09-29-08 02:39 PM

I like my Microtech, but if I had known the company was lying to us about upgrading the software I would have went with something else. Realistically though, at the time the only other choice was Haltech and they tend to have trigger issues.
