Ltx12 Connection

Does anyone know if the connection on the LTX12 is a 9 pin male or female serial connection?

I was told that it's not a straight serial connection, but that it's more of a dongle; thus, you need MT's cable that comes with the software.

The connector on the ecu is a 9 pin female,
you need a male to female db9 cable,
but with out the dongle you cannot connect to the ecu, it crosses over some wires and has come electrics in it.

So if I connect the cable to the ECU, and then the dongle to the PC, that will work? This is so I do not need to pull all the trim and carpet up each time we do changes to the mapping.
