is there a difference between the two and what are they if any. is my guy selling me a crock of ***** when he says the difference is night and day.

The US versions have a 3bar map sensor and GM sensors, thats the only difference....

going off the retail prices, LT8 with 3bar and sensors is around $1000us, then you have shipping and duty on top of that, so $1300us would be a good price to walk in off the street, pay and walk out, as they say you shop around you will save money, but for convience you pay extra,

The only difference is what options and costs the dealer forces you as a purchaser to pay. The units themselves are no different from an Aussie-direct unit.
