Megasquirt Trouble starting 13b P-port with MS1
Trouble starting 13b P-port with MS1
I am using MS1 on a peripheral port 13b and I have been having trouble getting it to start. I am still in the tuning stage and the engine is still breaking in so it's kind of hard to start already. I have gotten the car to start and run pretty good, but just recently after a drive the car started to run crappy and died. Now when I crank the car it will hit and almost start and die. If I keep cranking the car it will run around 400 RPM's for a bit. The plusewidth always stays in the cranking setting and will sometimes spike all the way up to 20ms when it hits. I noticed that the trailing coil spark has been jumping to the negative on the coil sometimes, which is where i have the ignition trigger for megasquirt wired. I have since moved it to the leading coil and successfully flashed the MS1 code into the proccessor thinking that was the problem but it stil acts the same. I'm really stumped as to what could be wrong and any help would be appreciated! Here is a thread telling more about the engine and carhttps://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=807507&page=5.
So I worked on the car this weekend...I tried starting the car a couple of time before working on it at all and after a couple of tries the car caught revved up to about 3000, it ran really crappy for a sec then sputtered out and died. I never did get it to start after that. I checked out the spark plugs they were pretty clean still. I put in another known good distributor I had and tried a couple of different coils that I had. I then had my friend turn the car over while the plugs were out of the engine and they all made a nice bright spark, but the car still wouldn't start. I then increased the required fuel and cranking pulsewidth and it didn't make any difference. The car will turn over almost start (goes to about 300-400RPM) then goes back to cranking. Thanks Aaron I appreciate any help, because it's got me stumped!

It would help if you can post the whole MSQ instead of just screen shots. But from the screen shots, I noticed the following:
-your required fuel is way low if you are using injectors smaller then 720CC. I can't find info in your build thread. Just set it to 10. Otherwise you may run out of space on the VE table
-use two squirts
-you don't want throttle body, chose the other setting
-speed density isn't going to work very well on this engine. You'll want to go to Alpha-N. You will need a full range TPS to make Alpha-N work
Whoa! OK, I'm going to stop there because I just noticed you are using the original B&G Megasquirt code. Before you go any further, load MSExtra for whatever version of the ECU you are using. The stock Megasquirt firmware is very limited compared to MSExtra.

I don't know how to post the whole MSQ, could you tell me? The set up I'm using is 4 GSL-SE injectors (680-720cc) in 4 42mm throttlebodies controlled by MS and I'm using a 1st gen distributor with a 2nd Gen coil for leading and a super stock coil for trailing. I downloaded the MS1 Extra firmware and loaded it into megasquirt but it was acting funny, like not burning the correct values into MS, they would change after I burned them. I will try MSExtra again, is there anything special For MSextra that I need to do? The weird thing is the car has run pretty decent on these same settings. Would I have maybe screwed up the proccesor or something?
To save an MSQ to upload, when you're in MegaTune or TunerStudio, just go to file > Save As and save it. You will have to zip it first, before you can upload it here, so right click on the .msq file you just made and choose send to > compressed (zip) folder.
Cheers!
