Tach Signal with Stim

As originaly posted by lowkee33 a couple of post down I am also having difficulty getting the tach to respond with the stim during assembly testing. Everything else has tested good up to this point. I have been reading for several hours but still have the problem of no tach signal

Info on my MS

Megasquirt 1 Ver. 3.0 board

MSnS-Extra firmware flashed and correct version of Megatune installed (this was done before performing the last test)

I have followed the MegaManual step by step and completed or skipped as detailed below.

completed (everything prior to this point has past all test I was asked to do)
50-a-viii

Skipped
51-a-l

completed
52 for VR sensor by jumpering VRIN to Tachselect

competed
53

completed
54

Now, just a reminder, all tests the manual has had me do have passed with flying
colors until this point. I flashed the MSnS-extra code and installed the corsponding version of Megatune before running this last test.
When I open Megature now I get the following message before MT opens.....

Gauge configuration titled `Target AFR` references variable `Target AFR`
which cannot be found.

I also would like to know how to tell when the potentiometers located at R52 and R56 are turned "all the way counterclockwise" since there are no stops. (the screws will turn 360`with out stopping)

I don`t want to go any farther with out knowing everything I`ve done so far is correct.

And yes, I`m not experianced with electronics and have only done a very small amount of soldering before now. So far I`ve done a "proper" job with the soldering of all components and that includes the Q22 and Q23 transistors.
I used a jewlers magnifing hood while solder everything AND to be sure I did not short out those transistors.

Did you copy the msns-extra.ini file from the firmware directory to the proper place in the megatune install directory?

Just keep turning. These potentiometers have like 20 turns. Just keep turning them gently and you'll eventually hit the stoppers... they're kinda hard to feel but you'll eventually hit them. You'll know you've gone too far if they click.

Muytha,

Okay I got the potentiometers set to just before the "click". I do not feel the stops but the click comes at the same position each time. I hope that will do it.

As far as the .ini file goes I thought I copied it to the correct place.

In the 024s13c folder I copied the msns-extra file, and put it (now I THINK the following is correct) inside of

Megasquirt\car1\mtCfg

The following files exist there after copying msns-extra into it.

Custom (config. settings)
Settings (config. settings)
msns-extra (config. settings)
megatune.cfg (CFG file)
throttlefactor (INC file)

If this is not correct then I need a more detailed explanation on how/where to copy that file correctly.

what version of megatune are you using?

Also, you don't want to be using 024s13c... that doesn't have proper rotary support.

The latest 029 should work fine for rotary use.

Okay, I`m using Megatune 225b514

I have not found the 029 firmware. The only version listed in the "firmware" post at the top of this forum is 026i.

I have found a LARGE number of differant sites pertaining to firmware etc and it is quite confusing. I must apologize for taking up so much of your time. I do appreciate you help though.

You will also want to upgrade to megatune 2.25 instead of using one of the betas... and you'll want to read its notes on where to put the config files.

Well I got the 029 version flashed.
I also installed Megatune 2.25
I copied the ini files to Megasquirt\Megatune2.25\mtCfg
And also into Megasquirt\car1\mtCfg

When I open Megatune I get NO warnings etc. It opens right up.
I turned stim for wheel "on" and changed from "4" to "2"

Everything works as before (ie all settings move) except for the RPM.

Is there going to be a problem if, during assembly of the board, installed the following components as described in #50 of the Megamanual even though they will not be used for my rotary ignition?

R12
R13
C11
D1
D2 with jumper shorting diode out
U3

Should I have left those out of the assembly process?

This is really bugging me. I want to be SURE that everything passes muster at the point I`m at now. I don`t want to ignore a potential problem and continue as its just gonna get harder to troubleshoot.

did you jumper tsel to vroutinv?

installing both tach circuits won't hurt anything, but you have to remember to jumper vrin to tachselect, and tsel to vroutinv.

Damn if I did not miss that jumper!!!
I will take care of that when I get off work later today.
I`ll post back as soon as I get it corrected and let everyone know what happened!
Lets hope that is my trouble.

I am glad I am not the only one. These are the exact same problems I am having.

muythaibxr,

Thank you so much for putting up with my dumb ***. (see sig!)
That corrected the trouble, everything works correctly now off the stim controls.

I`ve been following the Megamanual found on diyautotune.com.
Is there another version of it I should be using or did I just plain miss an instruction?

I use the one on www.megasquirt.info for the v3 board. I've never looked at the one on diyautotune.
