starting woes

Hello, I'm having some starting issues with my 'vert after flashing my firmware up to the newest 2.1.0q

my old laptop with the prior tune on it was stolen.

I'm running board 3.0
megasquirt II

I've got everything wired up as described in the Mazda Cas .pdf that's been floating around here. I looked at Aaroncake's writeup for a few ideas, I didn't attempt to mix the writeups, because they both use different pins for different things. I just looked through it to try to understand everything that was happening a little better. I did however use most of his tables and settings

I'm also using the left half of this http://jbperf.com/dual_VR/index.html#Buy
board for my 2nd Vr Circuit

I'm not totally sure where to begin, I think I can smell the fuel injectors firing, and the cas is reading the rpm's correctly. The Leading and Trailing coils both have 12v and are connected as in the PDF.

I've uploaded the current tune and datalog from cranking

the car started on the piror firmware, and ran rough.
I realized I mixed up 3/4 cas wires, so I repaired the harness at the ecu side.
Downloaded the newest DIY software package
and updated.

I'm getting 12v to the coils, and I'm pretty sure the ecu is triggering them. I've yet to take a sparkplug and ground it to watch it fire.

I'll do that in the morning

what else should I look for, I'll double check the injectors are firing as well, although it smells like they are.

is there anything seriously out of whack with my settings software side?

well, i'll leave my advice at checking for spark. i don't quite think i'm qualified to evaluate an *.msq yet since i'm having my own problems right now trying get my brother's car to spark. however, you changed both wiring and your firmware, so as long as you're still getting spark, i think you can confirm that the firmware may be the issue you're having.

Diabolical1, I appreciate the advice, I've been called away from the house for a few days due to work, but I'll check it as soon as I get home. Hopefully someone will be along to look at the MSQ sometime soon

Does the tuning software on the laptop show RPM? If not then you're not getting the CAS signal correctly.

If it worked on 1.0.x and not on 2.1.0 then most likely you need to put a .01uF cap across G+ and G-, and add a jumper to pin 14 on the lm1815.

Diabolica1, Ken, thanks for the assist.

It reads rpm really smoothly actually.
it doesn't bounce around
doesn't stop at an rpm while cranking and then disappear like some other people have had
I've installed the .01uf cap already, shielded wire, and the jumper is on pin14

I actually just upgraded from a prior 2.1.0 to the newest 2.1.0d

I've still yet to get home, but I realized with all the cranking I've done, I should have flooded it. But I'm pretty sure I didn't since the accompanying smell wasn't present. So I'm going to check the injectors too.

One thing I've experienced more than once is that is is possible to foul a plug or plugs in a manner to where they look perfect but will not fire a spark. I have one used for about 30 minutes total on a new startup that looks brand new but will not fire and measures ~40K resistance.

I have heard that before, but have never managed to foul one that bad!

swapped the plugs,
started on the first go

the car idles roughly, bucks and smokes a little bit, thinking the timing isn't set, and maybe mixed with some pretty oldish gas/premix. and the fact that I'm using Aaroncake's VE table unmodifiled..

so I'm gonna set the timing and throw some fresh gas in her. Hopefully that'll solve the issues. anyone have any ideas? I don't think the motor's blown, last time I checked compression it was over 80 on each side.

I'd just try what you plan on trying. That will probably be fine.
