splicing a LCU 4.2 without use of the controller?
hey guys
have any of you tried to wire in the LCU 4.2 wide band straight into the megasquirt rather then it going to the controller?
here is my problem. short on cash. for one...
second i just got a wideband from my teacher today cause he had a extra one for the class that he didnt need. however he didnt have an extra controller. So wanted to wire the wideband straight into the MS. can this be done and work correctly?
its the bosch LCU 4.2 with a 5 wire . can anyone tell me which color wire is used for what? yellow ,silver, black, red, white.
my guess is :
red : 12v
black : ground
silver: o2 signal or pin 23 on MS?
yellow: no idea
white : no idea...

No, you can't wire it in direct. The controller is absolutely necessary to obtain a wideband signal. The folks at http://wbo2.com/lsu/lsuworks.htm describe how they work in technical terms. I think the least expensive controller may be found at http://www.14point7.com/JAW/JAW.htm . I have no direct experience with this product, YMMV.

thanks for the link PMrobert
that jaw thing looks interesting to build and for me being a penny pincher it seems to be the best option for me . being with no controller to begin with. thanks so much .
cheers.

wanted to add something to this .
as far as the wideband grounding, will there be any affect on the wideband as to where i ground the controller? i was going to ground it where the MS is also grounded which is on the engine block... my tuner says that i need to wire a ground for the controller where the MS is grounded as well . for a more precise reading on the controller.

Here's a video lecture that explains things. It's a little long but very informative. http://www.diyautotune.com/videos/me...brucenoise.mov

Any ECU needs the sensor and processor grounds to not float or differ from each other. Your tuner is giving excellent advice. A lot of people don't think that pulling grounds from the block and body can be offset from each other - but they are.
