Potential bug in 029q2

I Found a problem last night while doing some data collection while driving. The fan was not comming on as its set up to @ 194 degrees. The odd thing is while the engine was not running the fan output was activating but while the car was running the output stopped working. Very odd, so I reverted back to 029q and the fan output returned to working normally. I haven't yet searched on the ms forums for this bug yet.

Sounds to me like you didn't use easytherm on the new firmware.

I used it. I wrote my 029q msq back to the ms and the output worked fine, while the ms itself still had 029q2 on it.....

that's not a firmware bug then if I understand what you're saying....

You're saying you used 029q2 on the MS, but reloaded your old 029q msq to it, and it started working again?

If that's the case, it's also not a firmware bug.

Ken

Yes, Ken that's exactly whats happened. What made me think it was a bug is that my output settings for 029q2 are the same for my fan. It works if the ignition is on and car is not running, I get a ground on my fan's output, but once the car starts I lose that ground on the output... very odd. Revert back to a 029q msq and it works normally.

I don't think that's a firmware bug, if it works with your old settings, then something is wrong with the new settings. It *might* be that in your new settings, you have the tacho output pin set to the same one that controls the fan. I've had something like that happen once.

I will check it tonight, thanks I notice a few changes in setting in q2 gui, different locations etc. I will check the tach output. I'm also getting the tach in the dash doing some weird things as you may have remembered I had problems with trailing working off the led issue a few months back, but thats for another post .

It was nice to drive my car again "legally" today to the shop. although I either have a massive vacume leak or there is not enough spring tension closign my throttle plates since I removed the first set of secondary throttle plates as I get a manual type of cruise control let off the gas and sometimes it doesn't want to let off and sometimes it will even rev up high..... not sure whats going on there, again another post

IIRC, 29q and 29q2 are identical code. The only difference is in the .inc files.

ahh yes, Eagle7 is right, I had forgotten about that. 029q had the rx7 inc files included in it by mistake; in 029q2, James switched them back to the standard GM inc files. This would totally explain why stuff isn't working for you if you didn't use easytherm correctly to modify the sensor calibrations on the MS.

You were right Ken, I had tach output enabled. I thought for sure it was disabled by default but needless to say once disabled it works fine. I know the symptoms of easy therm being wrong your h20 and air temps will be all over the place. Funny though while doing a shake down test last night after getting my intercooler installed, the connector for water temp sensor is broken and it came off a coupe times during hard accelleration causing the ms to think I was in siberia @ -40 and fattening up the mix so bad it just sputtered. I am a happy camper now I've got my turbo hooked up and can't wait to iron out the rest of the problems, I am going to start a new thread for those.
