Angry No AFR Reading

So I finally got my firmware loaded on the mega squirt(MS2 Extra 1.0.2 Now with the stim plugged in everything looks good except for my AFR guage is not reading. I tried switching from NB to WB on the stim and MegaTune with no positive results. The stim works fine on my buddy's MS1 Vr.3pcb 029y so i dont think its that.

Any Ideas??????

You need to change the settings.ini file to set Megatune to read the wideband.

-Go into the folder containing your megatune project. (usually /program files/megasquirt/"project name"/mtCfg/settings.ini)

-Open up settings.ini in notepad. Scroll down until you see this:
Code:
;------------------------------------------------------------------------------
; Pick an O2 sensor setup, exactly one of these must be #set and the rest
; must be #unset. None of this is applicable to MS-II, see all the
; calibration options under the Tools menu when using standard B&G MS-II code.

#group LAMBDA_SENSOR "MS-I Lambda Sensor Type"
   #unset NARROW_BAND_EGO "Narrowband Sensor"
#unset WB_1_0_LINEAR "Wideband in NB Emulator Mode, 0-1v 1.5-0.5 Lambda"
   #unset AEM_LINEAR "AEM Gauge AEM-30-42xx"
   #unset AEM_NON_LINEAR "AEM UEGO Controller AEM-30-230x"
   #unset DIYWB_NON_LINEAR "DIY-WB or Tech Edge non-linear output"
   #unset DYNOJET_LINEAR "DynoJet Wideband Commander"
   #unset TECHEDGE_LINEAR "Tech Edge sensor giving 0-5V 9-19:1 AFR"
   #unset INNOVATE_1_2_LINEAR "Innovate sensor giving 1-2V 10-20:1 AFR"
   #unset INNOVATE_0_5_LINEAR "Innovate, PLX 0-5V 10-20:1 AFR"
   #unset INNOVATE_LC1_DEFAULT "Innovate LC-1 default, 0-5v = 0.5-1.5 lambda"
   # set ZEITRONIX_NON_LINEAR "Zeitronix Non-linear WB"
#unset WB_UNKNOWN "Wideband sensor but none of the above types"
#endgroup
You will need to "set" whatever wideband you have (as you can see above, mine is set to Zeitronix non-linear WB.") The default "set" is narrowband sensor. "unset" the narrowband after setting whatever wideband you have. If you're running an innovative wideband, you may want to search around as the settings are different for those.

-Save the settings.ini file after making your changes and close it.

-Open megatune and go to tools ---> calibrate AFR table. Select your wideband from the list and click OK.

That should be everything you need to make your wideband input work and readable by MT.

actually, you don't HAVE to do that, the ms2 doesn't really use it.

The main thing to do is "calibrate AFR" in the Tools menu. Set it to whichever wideband you have and (with the car turned to on, but with the engine not running) let it burn to flash.. it'll count up to 1024 and then it should read OK.

Also, the engine has to be running and O2 control has to be enabled before it will display an AFR.

MT would not read WBO2 unless I did the steps I mentioned earlier. Many other people have the same issue. After all, it's MT we're reading from.

I tried setting it to NB and the Stim to NB. My AFR is 0.00 all red.
I then tried setting it to Generic WB and the stim to the same...still no AFR.

should i just leave it for when i install it in the RX???

Here is the weird thing. If I Turn the stims o2 sensor pot, unplug it, then replug it in will read reads just one sample...just one sec of the AFR then wont move after that.

I'll post a pic of my board tomorrow.

Are you getting an RPM reading in mega tune? Like mentioned earlier, the engine has to be "running" to display AFR.

No RPM signal...yeah i guess that would make sense.
So I'm just going to leave it until its installed in the RX. I'll have to deal with the problem then if it doesn't work. Thanks for your help!!

As I said before, those steps are necessary with ms1, not ms2.

With ms2, you only need to go to Tools->Calibrate AFR table (exact wording might be off), and select your wideband type there.

MT only reads what the MS sends it on ms2, the ms2 itself does the conversion... where on ms1, everything is done in ADC units, and MT just takes that and converts it.

As my signature implies, I have MS2. I'm not going to argue about it. I had a problem, I tried something, and the solution fixed said problem. Anyone having the same issue I'd suggest trying the same thing, as the solution has been proven valid regardless of how the system is "supposed" to work.

Obviously, it's not the case here, so whatever.

ken, i tried doing what you told me also with the same results.
With the MS off i turn the o2 pot on the stim half way clockwise. The i plug it in i get a reading of around 13.5 but it wil not move if i turn the pot wile its on.

The stim works, we used it on my buddys 1.8T gtx and got a o2 reading. He is running MS1 Vr.3.0 pcb.

Yeah, whether you do what I said or not, you still have to have RPM and have O2 correction enabled before you'll see anything there.

The only thing the settings.ini change does is for ms1, it lets the voltage being read by the ms get translated (by MT) into an AFR. Since ms2 does that translation for you after you've calibrated the table, that particular step can be skipped with no problem. It's the same for MAT and CLT as well.

I don't change that part of settings.ini on any of my installs, and it works fine in all of them provided I turn on wideband correction and calibrate the AFR table. doing the settings.ini step won't hurt, but is unnecessary.
