Hey everyone,
I just finished updating my website and one of the major parts of it was a step by step Megasquirt tutorial on the 2nd gen RX-7.
When I say "step by step", I mean a complete writeup that covers the entire process from starting with a bone stock car, to wiring in the Megasquirt, programming it in Megatune and even some basic tuning instruction. It was a huge undertaking, much more so then I originally thought and took nearly 8 months to complete. In my opinion (though I am biased) it may be the single greatest Megasquirt writeup outside of the Megamanual and MSExtra sites.
You'll find it here:
http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/megasquirt/
The writeup covers both MS1 and MS2, but I do have one warning. As I do not have an MS2 to play with, I based my MS2 programming info on some old maps I have for the few cars running MS2 I have played with. If you notice anything wrong, please let me know and I will correct it ASAP. Also, different people have different ideas of how things should be done, so if you have any suggestions, I'd welcome them.

How did you acquire the car? Just curious as it was sold several years ago with a bad engine in the Canadian classifieds. Kind of wondering how many times it changed hands and what happened to it in the mean time. If you want to reply via PM, that's fine.

Well, I don't have just one reason.
Cost, $70 more for ms2, not that big a difference but still.
Necessity, I'm doing this preparation for a future turbo engine build which will have 9.4 rotors, which means I will need timing control. I was going to go with rtek but with the $450 price and that it is still limited by 25 year old factory components made me 2nd guess that decision.
And last this is my first in depth electrical adventure. I'm a fast learner and like doing/building my own stuff but I wanted to get the older, cheaper version in case I screw up somewhere.
In the future if I need/want to upgrade to ms3 I will have a lot more experience with ms than right now.

You can always go to an MS2 or MS3 CPU board later. The only issue with the MS1 is that it's no longer developed. No problem with it of course, just less resolution and features than the newer ECUs.

Remove all jumpers and configure the ECU as per the instructions on my site. That ECU looks to be set up to run a stepper IAC and an external ignition coil with a distributor pickup.

You'll need to add the 2nd VR circuit and all the other standard mods needed on an MS1/MS2 to run the rotary, as shown in my writeup.
The unit you received seems to be the default configuration from that vendor.

Depending on the exact part number used, the clicks can range from very faint to non-existant. None really produce a loud, audible click; even the most "clicky" are a click you FEEL more than hear. Don't worry about it.

I've got a 1990 FC3 NA and I'm working on my plan to install the MegaSquirt-III EMS System with MS3X Expansion V3.57.
Can you educate me or lead me in the right direction to understand the differences of the newer ECU and how they relate to your write up?
Thanks in advance!
Steven

There are many differences between installing a previous MegaSquirt and an MS3X.
The basic sensors, wideband, fuel pump and fuse panel wiring can follow my writeup.
But the injectors, coils and CAS are wired differently. For that info, check out:
How to MegaSquirt your FC RX-7
I am currently updating my writeup for MS3 but it is a very time consuming thing to do. Between all my other projects it may be a while before it's done.

Oh no, just read at that link the oil metering isn't going to work with MegaSquirt and I have to add 2-stroke oil. That kills my plan since the goal is to run multi-fuel (CNG or petrol). Can't add oil to CNG. Is there any way to get the oil-metering to work? Searched all over and can't find anything.

MegaSquirt Mod
some preliminary OMP support was contributed by a user. I need to integrate that with my closed-loop code to control it. My current plan was to do that in the ms3 1.4 firmware. Just a note though, it consumes 4 outputs and 1 input.

I'm in the process of updating my MegaSquirt writeup for MS3X. Almost done, then I have to add MS3-Pro.
