Megasquirt ms3 timing way off
hey guys recently got my motor rebuilt and decided to change to a stand alon at the same time but it seems my timing is way off it seem like its ~120 degrees off. i split the pulley with three marks one mark being on the yellow timing mark and the light is flashing ~120 degrees after the original yellow mark. it does run and hold a fairly steady idle. have tried aaron cakes setting and the diy auto tune settings both are ~120 degrees off. Im still not 100% familiar with the ecu so i will do my best to help you help me but all help is appreciated
the two leading coils are sparking 180 degrees from each other the leading on the front rotor is spot on the timing mark but the rear iron is off. I am also unable to find rx8 mode with tunerstudio because I am using single coils per plug.
Your leading sounds fine. The front rotor should spark at the timing mark, the rear should be 180 degrees off.

Spk A - front rotor leading
Spk B - front rotor trailing
Spk C - rear rotor trailing
Spk D - rear rotor leading
Compared to this one that has both front firing at the same time and Sam with the rears. Front and rear are 180 degrees apart
Spk A Front Leading coil
Spk B Rear Leading coil
Spk C Front trailing coil
Spk D Rear trailing coil
I would love to get this figured out, maybe I have misunderstood how the timing should be checked so far.
thanks for you help much appreciated.

They don't say clip the timing light to either leading *coil*, they say to either leading *wire*. That is because in stock form, there is only 1 leading coil and it fires every 180 degrees, so it doesn't matter which one you connect it to. In my experience, it still matters, so you should connect to the front wire.
The wiring depends on the firmware rev you're using. If the one you're using has the "rotary" stroke setting and doesn't have an "RX8" mode, then the second wiring is right. Otherwise use the first.
I don't remember what firmware rev that change took place in, but I think it was in the 1.2 series. I generally recommend using the latest stable firmware, which is currently the 1.2 series not the 1.1 series.
