Microsquirt issue..

Ok here's my dilemma, the Microsquirt is overcharging my coils. Not sure what I should do about that. My project is basically ready for dyno but it keeps burning coils. the voltage jumps to 16.3 with the car running with no alternator hooked up. Any help would be great motor is a s4 t2

Voltage jumps to 16.3 with no alternator?

Are you running a 16V battery?

If not, then that's not going to happen.

As for the coil issue, decrease dwell time in your tune.

No joke that's what my tuner said the ecu is doing. But running a standard battery I'll ask him about the dwell setting

the ecu dont do that ,if you dont have a 16v system you should not get near that voltage.also if your tuner its telling you that you should consider another one.

It is possible you have some weird ground situation going on, so there is a voltage offset or something.

To save your MSQ, open up TunerStudio, connect to your ECU, File, Save As, enter file name, Save. Then attach the file to your post.

When you say no alternator hooked up, what do you mean?

RX-7 alternators WILL self energize if you only disconnect the two wire connector! To prevent it from charging you need to remove the belt.

In short, I think you have a faulty regulator and are not properly isolating the alternator, as that is the only way that your situation can occur.

I am sur you used "Going low" for the spark output settings. Nearly made a barbecue myself with the coils. You have to choose "Going high".
