Measuring AC voltage to test VR circuit?

I know the proper way to test your vr signal is with an oscilloscope, but as I was trying to find alternative ways to track my signal to test my circuit, I did the following:
Put digital multimeter on AC voltage (lowest setting of 200)
put my negative lead on the white wire coming from the CAS
Put positive lead on red wire
span CAS

I noticed when I did this, the DMM would read 0.4-0.5 V, not much, but it was something
I switched the leads to the green and white/black wires, and saw a lower 0.1 V or 0.2 when i span it fast

Do you guys think this is a SOMEWHAT reliable way to track the CAS signal? I followed it down the line from pin 2, down to VRIN, through r45, r46, and r47, and they all showed the 0.4 V when I span the CAS.

I found 0.4V on one side of R51, but it is not present at the other side. Is this because there's something wrong with my R51? or is it just because this is an invalid way of testing the voltage, and because R51 has such large resistance (1M I believe) it's just diminishing the reading to the point where the meter doesn't show it?

I'm assuming this is just because it's not the proper way to test it, but wanted to make sure... just in case

What version ms are you using. There is a trigger logger in tuner studios

I'm using MS2 on the V3 board, running MSII/Extra release 3.2.1
Also, I have tried using tooth logger/trigger logger/composite logger, and none of them show anything. That is my main reason that I want to work down the circuit and find out where I'm loosing my signal.
Is there any other/better way to test the VR circuit? Without an oscilloscope?
