I could use some guiding

I have been reading about MS for about 4 months now. I have to say, I'm about as lost as ever. I've read through some of these threads but most people here have enough exp with MS that I get lost in the abv. everyone is using. When I started looking into a MS i was under the asumsion that it was as simple as get a kit, soder it all together by following instructions, make the harness, plug it together, and program with your laptop. Well I'm lost in the area of what all I need. I'm building a bridge port s4. going to run a t-70 with it. It's going into my 84 gsl-se. I've got the the fuel all upgraded and ready to go, I got a 2nd gen CAS, and all the other mechanical stuff ready to go. now i need the ecu. I want control over the igniton, fuel and maybe boost. I know MS can do that. The info as MS is all over the place with almost no orginization to it. it's very confusing and overwhelming to figure out. Almost all of the info assumes that you have exp with MS. I want to run the V2.2(i think), relay board would be nice aswell. What all do I need. If someone would be so kind as to make me a list and provide a link with where i can buy it from, I'd owe you a big one, you can have first dips on my 88n/a that' in my SE right now. It needs a good home, it runs great(rebuilt myself 15000mi ago).

have you read the FAQ in this section? I put it there specifically to answer just about all your questions....

If you haven't read that, check it out, then come back with any specific questions you have.

yea i did read through most of it, however most of the thread IMO was spent debating the ignitioin on weather to use v2.2 or v3. basically, i just need a parts list and where i can get the parts. After reading over so much stuff, so say, get this and that and others say no t get this but to that. so i was wondering if one of the fellow rx owners would lend me hand and tell me what i need.

Therein lies the problem... The reason you find so much information, is that there are many different options available to users, and there is no one perfect solution to meet everyone's needs. So, the options are: 1.) read, understand, and decide what's best for you, 2.) copy somebody else's solution, or 3.) pay someone to figure it out for you. Option three is what most folks do with the more traditional ecu systems. Go back and read the faq again, and be happy you have options 1 and 2 with MS! Option #2 is what muythaibxr is gratiously doing with the FAQ. You might also want to post on the msefi forum to see if you can network with other MS users in your area. That'd give you some potential local support, and a chance to 'kick-the-tires' before you jump in.

thanks man. it's just a ton of info and hard to follow one path when each paragraph you read on MS leads you to 3 different areas and then those 3 lead you to 3 different areas and then on and on. i'll take a look some more. when i come up with an idea then i'll post back here and let you guys look over it.

i was lost at first too.. but once you weed out what the versions are and the differences and benefits of one over the other.. read the info just specific to your board.. one thing that confused me off the bat was v2.2 v3.0 and megasquirt I and megasquirt II.. i was relating v2.2 to megasquirt I and v3.0 to Megasuirt II.. when i finally got the info from Muythaibxr it was clear that V2.2 and v3.0 is the board itself, and then megasuirt I & II are the type of chip for the ECU, megasquirt I being the popular one since the kinks have been worked out for the rotary.. then it all kinda fell into place..

ok i got a list of parts and my head hurt. i feel like i just cramed for my metalurgy final again... anywho

i got:
MS I v3.0 kit
error*'s daughter board(basically because i'm lazy and don't want to add into the proto space)
Relay board
simulator(i don't want to blow anything on my first try)
serial cable
usb to serial adapter

my next Q's are what sensors will i need?
Like i said before. It's an s4 ported and such. large turbo. I'm looking for autox and drift setup. Right now i'm running a 88n/a with the stock SE ecu. so i have mostly 1st gen sensor on it. I suppose i'll need:
air temp
coolent temp
map
O2(wideband? or does it matter?)

that's all that i think that'll i need to buy. should i go with stock? thanks again guys.

Stock sensors will work fine. I've used the stock air temp and coolant temp. The MS has a built-in MAP sensor, so I'd recommend using that. Just run a vacuum line to it.

For O2 I highly recommend a wideband setup.

If you're going to stay with a stock 2nd gen harness, you won't need the relay board either. That's mainly useful for people who are switching from a carbed setup to a fuel injected setup. You can (if you want) get the relay board and get rid of the stock harness... but that's mostly up to you.

13B4port,

The GSL-SE and S4 have the same air temp and coolant temp thermistors. If you are running an S4 engine, you likely have the S4 sensors anyways, unless you swapped them out during the installation. BTW, the coolant temp sensor you want is the one in the back of the water pump, not the one below the oil filter. A stock O2 sensor is fine for tuning mild n/a applications, but WBO2's are quite common now as the price has dropped dramatically in the last couple years.

If this is all new to you, I'd highly recommended sticking with a fuel-only install, and leave the dizzy sparking the plugs for now. You only need a MS I v3.0 kit, and a stimulator (for testing). If you have a local MS builder that can loan you a stim, then you may want to go that route to save a few bucks. Then later, once you are bored playing with the fuel side of things, look into adding spark.
