has anyone blown an apex for a non-knock related reason?
so, has anyone destroyed an apex seal for any other reasons than a knock issue? I'm trying to figure out what the peak pressure threshold in the engine would be.
secondly, i have been asking this question all over the net, but i will ask again here:
are there any material differences (internally) between an NA and a turbo rotary? obviously the compression ratios are different due to the combustion "bath tub" shape difference between the two. but the question is, does Mazda build the turbo rotaries stronger internally, or is it all the same stuff? (same apex seal hardening process, same alloy etc...)
as you may have guessed, i'm trying to figure out how much boost i can expect to run in my NA S5 and size the turbo accordingly. i will be doing water/meth injection, and 94 octane gas, possibly higher if need be.

Yea I believe the only thing that is different is the stationary gears are hardened but as far as housings, rotors, irons and e-shaft its pretty much all the same as NA's.
in my limited experience with these forums, i tend to get better results if i just ask the megasquirt guys. not to be unfair to the rest of thoes on the forums, but my logic is, that anyone deeply into running MS on their motor probably has a greater knowledge base than the general croud. again, not to sound shitty, but asking questions like this to a lot of people that have done a few bolt-ons usually results in a wave of poor information (this happened to me a lot at "nopistons"). i can further rationalyze this becasue i am using MS to control %100 of the motor, so this question could easily develop into a directly MS related one.
thanks for your resopnse though, i did not know that about the stationary gear. any idea on why Mazda would beef that part up in one engine and not the other? is it simply and "expense vs. power capacity" issue?

The stationary gears end up with a lot of load on them since that's what the rotors push against to turn the e-shaft and therefore generate torque. I would assume that since the turbo motor puts out more torque, it needs stronger stationary gears.
If they don't change anything else, all that means to me is that nothing else needed changing.
