A few questions for the 2nd gen guys running Megasquirt

Well, I finally got the car running with the stock computer. While I break the engine in, I want to prepare for the Megasquirt.

First things first, how are you guys getting a TPS signal? I mean, I know the sensor is sitting right there....but have you installed a full-range TPS from a S5? Or does the signal past 20% throttle not really even matter?

Second, what do I need for a VR conditioner? I know, the LM1815 chip itself...but it appears the post with the circuit designs is gone and I didn't make a copy in time. With the conditioner, the CAS can be run like a 12-1 (24-2) wheel, correct?

Well, the rx7 I installed megasquirt on for tofuball is an S5, so it has a full range tps that you can use. You can either take one from an S5, or toss tps altogether and use MAPdot. I didn't have much luck with it but I didn't mess with it much either.

The CAS is run as a 12 + 1 wheel... you need a dual lm1815 circuit:

The only change needed to the above circuit is that the .001 capacitor in the upper left corner needs to be a .01 capacitor... and pins 9 and 11 of the lm1815 on the left need to be run ONLY to ground. (thank renns on this forum for modifying jsmcortina's (on the msefi forum) schematic to work with the dual vr sensors).

the megasquirt then takes 2 inputs off the lm1815 board... the conditioned 24 tooth signal goes to pin 6 of the opto-isolator, and the conditioned 2 tooth signal goes to pin 11 of the cpu... I posted tofuball's msq file in the megasquirt forums if in the MSnS-extra section in a thread about rotary ignition if you want to get it now, otherwise I can send it when I get home. (This is necessary so you can see how to set up the wheel decoder section to work right)...

Awsome! This is *EXACTLY* what I've been looking for! I'll see if I can find the MSQ file, I should be able to find it just fine.

Maybe we need a Megasquirt sub-forum here? Seems like there would almost be as many posts as Wolf 3D...

I think that tofuball asked and the mod turned him down or something... wouldn't hurt to ask again....

We could always start referring people to msefi.com - anyone who is seriously interested in MS really should be doing homework there anyway. No disrespect intended towards rx7club.com - I just want people to have the most successful experience possible planning and installing their MS projects.

I've spent quite a bit of time there, its a great resource....but all of the information is spread out and not easily accessible from the home page. The disadvantage to msefi is there is no "rotary only" forum....which shouldn't even matter, but sifting thru several posts to find what you need is a minor inconvience.

Also, the advantage to having a forum here is that this is a rotary forum, with an ECU section none the less. If people see Megasquirt being discussed here on a regular basis, possibly even in its own sub-section, they will be more likely take interesting in the project as it will appear they have quite a bit of support in a place they know.

That being said, all of the support in the world is available from msefi, but its also less active in terms of people visiting per day and in the amount of rotary traffic.

I agree with you 100%. I guess I meant that msefi.com has lots of resources that can help with those subjects that are common to both rotaries and "the others". The Internet as a whole is a PITA at times to find the gold nuggets of info. The signal/noise ratio is not very good. Human nature I guess.

I think I got trailing working... I made some changes to the code and I'm just waiting for jsmcortina on msefi to confirm what I'm seeing on my oscilloscope... after he confirms I'll test on a real car (tofuball's, whenever it's ready) and post the news somewhere... probably in it's own thread.
