do I have a coil issue?

I have this "thing" going on around 2300rpm+. I think it may be ignition breakup or failure. Im posting a datalog clip, and you can see that I am staging at 2500rpm with a staging table. This occurs before that though. My engine shakes violently, and there is no power. Extremely difficult to power through it. My afr is staying around 11.5 at 100Kpa and Im shooting for 13.5. Still that shouldnt be too rich to still accelerate I dont think. But by the datalog pic, you can see that I have a distinct rpm oscillation after 2300rpm at high load. Im thinking spark is falling off. Everything else looks pretty smooth on the graphs.

Can anyone comment? Can I test these coils?

Double check your grounds just to be on the safe side.

All my grounds are tip-top as far as I can see. DIY harness, all grounds go to a ground distribution panel, the panel is grounded to battery, frame and engine.

Ok did some research...

My cranking dwell is set to 6.0, my max dwell to 4.0 and an accel compensation of 1.0.

Im posting a screengrab, its the same as before, but I have dwell on the log, and with rpm change, dwell doesnt change. I think it should drop off as rpm increases? But its not and stays pretty much about 4.5 all the time and goes to 8.99 while cranking.

What gives?

Could this be an issue with my spark getting weaker as rpms increase?

I tested my coils and they are in spec per the haynes manual. And the dwell follows the dwell battery correction table to a T. Thats why it is where it is. I found this by bringing up battV on datalog.

So i dont know if they are over heating...?

Or if its a completely different unrelated problem..

4ms of dwell is about 2.5 ms more than you need. Don't know if that's the issue though.

thats what I thought. It should drop with rpm rising. But it doesnt, it just follows the dwell battery correction table. This concerns me. I guess I will try dropping my maximum dwell to about 2.5ms. And I might clear out the dwell battery correction table.

The only other thing I can think of is my timing is set wrong. I originally had a crank angle of 60* and you had me set it to 0*. So I might need to dial my CAS in again.

pretty sure I fixed it.... feel like an idiot. restabbed the cas and its all good. also changed my dwell settings although, I still am getting the same dwell patterns for the most part. lowered my dwell to 2.5 from 4.0 and the dwell battery correction to 100% all through. still seeing like 4.6ms of dwell through all of it.

how are you determining the amount of dwell?

If you're looking at the coil itself, the stock ignitor increases the amount of dwell compared to what you command, so that's normal.

Dwell should not necessarily drop as RPMs go up unless a dwell event is starting before the previous spark is finished.

Im just viewing it on my datalogs. I dont know if that is the right way to determine what it is. I changed my max dwell to 2.5ms from 4.0ms. And on the datalog the only difference it made was about .2ms. The datalog was showing an average of 4.9, 4.8ms dwell through most conditions. After changing the max dwell to 2.5, it still reads about 4.6ms most of the time. Just didnt feel like that was right.

I thought my issue with breakup might have been from heated coils from too long of a dwell. But it turns out, when I was running the old firmware with the settings I had then, and changed it to the 3.0.3 firmware, I hade to restab my cas. I was like two or three teeth off where it should have been. That has fixed the problem so far and it drives a lot better. I should have figured that out before now, but sometimes I get frustrated and dont think clearly.
