Dangerous!!

A friend bought a gsl-se tonight from a guy I work with for $300. It's reported that the electronics are shot.

Guess what we are going to do to it.................

And we are going to try to get it done and running by this weekend!

We got the harness almost done tonight, and everything is shaping up. I got a problem with the megasquirt itself, on the stim it simulates just fine. I built it identical to my unit so I could plug it in my car to test it, but when I do that it is acting like it's not getting a signal from the cas. No injector pulses or spark activity. Yes, i have stim for wheel off and my jumpers are set correctly. I traced over the tach input circuit about 10 times making sure the board is ok and the correct components are in place.... I'm not sure where to check next....

Hmm, are you using dual wheel or a single wheel with missing teeth? MS2 or MS1 cpu?

The MS CPU is updated with the same firmware as well?

Was there any particular component you had trouble soldering on the board- perhaps it was overheated and may need to be replaced?

Did you check the pots to make sure they're fully counter clockwise?

I've checked everything on the board and everything is fine, the pots are counterclockwise all the way. The odd thing is on a bench test everything will work for one cycle, so i'm thinking it's software related.

Anyhow we used my ms unit to try and start the car and it tried to fire but couldn't. So we took off the exhaust headder and had a look at the seals. They are wore so bad they cant make proper contact with the housing. None of them were locked in place but only two on the rear had enough spring left to them to seat. I'm thinking this is the reason it would only pop once in a while when trying to start it.

A tear down is in progress to see what we can find, if everything is ok we are going to get new soft and hard seals to freshen up the engine.
