crazy rpm problem need to check wiring.

I still have crazy rpm problem. I can unhook the coils and get the right rpm. I can't get it with the coil on. Here is what I got hooked up.

led 17 to green yellow terminal 1v
led 18 to brown yellow terminal 1u
led 19 to blue white terminal 1x

error daughter card
T1 to red terminal 1t
T5 to white terminal 1q
T2 to green terminal 1n
T6 to white blackor blue terminal 1p

that points to noise... you're getting noise from the spark system. Most likely your shielding is not good enough, or your grounds aren't good enough, or you have an intermittant ground

So I take it that the wiring is ok. I have the error board grounded to one of the db37 grounds. Where should be the best place to ground the card. And were is the best ground for the MS. I have the relay board so I have that grounded to the firewall. I will run another from the battery. I can't find anywere to get shielded wire, poeple around here have no clue what it is. Where should I order from.

I typically ground the MS to the engine, and the engine to the chassis... grounding to the firewall will probably cause some of the problems you're seeing, and may be intermittant.

I am still having problem with tach signal. I grounded the engine to chassis. MS relay board is grounded to engine and firewall. I still need to install alternator, but I don't think that will help. I might go with a bigger quage wire for grounding. I played with pot on the error card a little, still no difference. I used sheilded wire for the CAS hook up (oxygen sensor wires). I hook CAS up off the ECU plug. I might try shielded wire for the coils. Here is a datalog of my engine running.

Is there any mod to the ms board I might have missed. I put the pull up resistor on the 3 led. Is there any jumpers I need anything

did you ground one end of the shielding? having the relay board grounded to the chassis AND the engine might cause weird problems. Just pick a place, preferably on the engine, and ground it there, and then run grounds from there to the chassis/battery.

I have a relocated battery. I have negative battery cable mounted to chassis and then one wire going to engine and one near the starter. From the engine to firewall where the ms is grounded. So there is no other mod to the ms board besides the pull up resistors. Can I ground all the shielded wire together as one and ground them also.

yeah, only ground the shielding at one point. I strongly recommend against grounding the relay board to the chassis though. Either ground to the engine or to the battery (I prefer using the engine as I seem to get less noise that way).

Whenever I've grounded to the chassis, the noise has been crazy. It might work for some, and it depends on your wiring, but I think it's better to use the engine. I once saw a case where when grounded to the chassis, every time the brakes were pushed, the temperatures on the sensors would jump.

I found the problem. The sheathing was damaged near the coil and plug wire were touching it.

I had to separate my plug wires from the CAS cable by a couple inches to eliminate RPM spikes.
