A cop question....?

Hey Ken I have another cop question. I know you must get tired of these questions. I've done a little research and I'm still a little confused. For the cop to work on my rotary I would enable rx8 mode and use the faq's build on the ms2 extra page.(D14-leading front, D15-trailing front, D16-leading rear, and JS11-trailing rear?)

No, it's:

D14 - leading front
D16 - trailing front
D15 - trailing rear
JS11 - leanding rear

You also have to set trailing ignition to FD mode.

Ok sorry I just noticed I mixed that up and as far as the build just use the 330 ohm resistor on the 1st pin of the bosch transistor, middle pin for the coil and 3rd pin to ground?

Also Ken I'm using the four trailing coils as I have burned the ignitors. What dwell time can I use with the cop setup?

If you do that, you'll have to use "inverted" spark mode, but I guess it should work. I've never used the Bosch transistor myself, so I'm not sure what pin is what. You'll have to look at the datasheet for that transistor, or if you got it from DIYautotune, I think he probably supplied some documentation.

No idea... usually with COP you can get away with less dwell. I'd start with 2ms and go up or down from there depending on how that does. 2ms is probably a bit on the high side, but it'll be a decent starting point.

Ok thanks for that Ken. I was just a little unsure how the dwell works. The lower the number (ms) for dwell the hotter the spark or the other way around?

Dwell is how long the coil charges... Higher dwell means hotter spark to a point. With most coils there's a point at which it's fully charged and won't get any hotter with more dwell though.

The trick is finding that point and then leaving it there. It's pretty easy to find if you have access to a scope.

I have no access to a scope right now so I guess trial and error will have to do at this point.

I'm actually reading on some info for msd boxes as I know my ignition is not keeping up with what the motor is putting out. I'm running a GT45 turbo at 15 psi with water injection and I notice a drop off at around 6500 rpm. It really drags to pass/hit 7000-7500rpm and my compression in the motor is good. AFR's are at 11.2-11.8 and it takes forever to get there.

With this cop setup how would I set it up in TS for dwell if I ran two boxes for the leading only?

Again, no idea, I've never tried using an MSD box.
