cant download firmware
im having a really hard time with this download and have given it 2 days worth of effort. need help.
i have a v3.0 board with the ms1chip. i downloaded the lastest firmware onto my pc and tried to download/install onto ms. i changed the intervals to 100 and configured megatune for ms1 and set my ports up. through usb its a com4. so i set that all up and when i download... it starts to work and then says there isnt anything at tha com port and i tried all of them too. i tested and get a successfull signal on com4. but when i boot jump the board to download and then start up ms again as prompted and hit enter..... it fails and then closes the download.
what am i doing wrong here.
ps i dont know what version of firmware is on it if any.
please advise
thanks

there isn't enough info here to help just yet.
1) are you using a usb->serial adapter?
2) what firmware did you try to reflash?
3) How did you go about trying to reflash... the exact steps
4) once you were done reflashing, did you power down, and remove the boot jumper?
5) where did you get megatune? There is a version available that automatically sets up megatune for ms1/extra

2) the latest ms1 extra
3) i went to msextra website and downloaded the current release listed as a link. after download i believe i was to go into the subfolder to the download file and run it and it was to do its thing with the black screen window. i believe i also did the copy ini .bat file switch. i followed the steps on the msextra site step by step and everything was working perfectly until this. i already had megatune 2.25 and i configured it for ms1 as well. i did everything that i could as listed in the steps at msextra.com.
4)i never got done with the reflash. after started the download and the black screen came up i followed the steps about the com port and what version of firmware i had... which i chose answer (Y) for i dont know what i have if anything. and i powered down ms and added the boot jump wire to both holes and powered up again and i noticed no lights from the stim or ms but assumed that was normal given the download mode. i then hit any key as prompted by the setup and it says the thing about 1700 lines etc. and then said there was no communication or download( i apologize i cant remember exactly) and it prompted to hit any key. so i did and the download wizard or whatever closed and that was it. i think it suggested that the com was wrong. but i tested this in megatune before hand and it was succesful. the second time i did this download attempt, i went in to configure file and changed the notepad file to read 100 ms interval and the com number to my com 4 usb.
5)i believe i have this version. i down loaded a bigger file that was to have megatune along with documents and whatnot with the firmware. i dont know if it had been preset for ms1 or not. i cant remember. i had megatune before hand and had set it up several ways, but when i went for the firmware i unistalled it and got this "package deal".
6) sorry im an idiot. im in over my head a little i think. not to mention this is a second hand unit. i did go over it with the assembly instructions online and it all looks right. i was gonna get the ms2 card but want to be running by next weekend and may do it later.
If the download utility complained about the com port, most likely you chose the wrong one.
you'll have to go into the hardware properties (can be reached by right clicking "my computer" and "properties, then looking for "hardware"... I'm not sitting at a windows computer right now, so if someone can post the full steps that'd be appreciated)
Then you'll want to check what the port is set up as.

okay
hmm.. i thought there would be a more complex answer. i will try this. i dont think this is my problem. i remember having such a hard tim getting the driver to work in my usb. it would not even recognize the usb at first. i spent a couple hours trying to figure out how to assign the usb port to be a com port. and i got it to work as port four.
but i will try this now and get back to you.

There isn't really a more complicated answer, as reflashing the firmware isn't all that complicated.
If you successfully reflash the firmware, all you have to do is copy the msns-extra.ini file to your car1/mtCfg directory (or whatever project directory you've created), along with your temperature sensor curves, and change the car1/mtCfg/settings.ini to have the correct CODE_VARIANT set up.
