BAC and Transistors

i have a question. my megasquirt kit came with a transistor that was not need. it is Q16 - 497-2716-5-ND (digikey#) it says IC Driver 340v 7.5 amp ISOWATT. would i be able to use this transistor to control the BAC valve.

i dont really know much about electronic components. if i cant use this could some one explain how you would tell based off the information that digikey provides about the components. thanks and i am do research on the subject so by the time someone responds i may have answered my own question.

That transistor is a vb921 replacement I think. It's meant for driving an ignition coil so I'm not sure it should be used for driving the BAC.

You should be able to go over to the local radioshack and pick up a TIP120 or variant (up to tip125 I believe). That'll work for sure.

yup.. already there. i went yesterday and picked up a TIP120.. i wasnt really expecting to find one there. .. thanks for respnding. now i have all the parts to build circuits for the BAC, VDI, and Aux ports. i just cant decide if i should cut the teeth of my spare CAS or order parts for the second VR conditioning circuit.. i just dont wont to wait for 5 days for it to be shipped in..

Check out schematic labeled 'Output - Other'. Looks like Q4 is your target.

this might be a little more helpful.

http://www.msextra.com/manuals/MS_Ex...nual_Index.htm

click on idle valves in the blue box at the bottom of the page. then look at
Option 2 (TIP122)

that should help you out. and dont be afraid to ask more questions. the only stupid question is the one that you dont ask that results in you blowing up your engine.

that's a bit odd... what do you mean that it hasn't been friendly. If there is some odd html in there or something that is breaking some peoples' browsers, I'm sure something could be done about it.

nah, its actually the computer I'm using. I use firefox and sometimes the site doesn't like to load, among others. I will also note that on some things I suck at searching because I can't think of related material very well. lol.

I see the same problem from my home ISP. Either msefi or msextra is up, but rarely both. IE gives the same result. Connecting through work shows both sites are nearly always reachable, so there's something amiss somewhere.

Very odd, I've never had this problem either from home or from work..

I'll see if I can find out anything.
