Anyone using megasquirt?

I've heard several people using the mega squirt controller. I've recently seen the web site and am curious. What are your views on this type of unit?

I think it looks great

However, It looks like a bit of work, and the lack of compatability with the RX-7s CAS is unfortunate. :O

I think I might be trying it when the MS2 comes out ~feb

CAS = Crank Angle Sensor.

One of the parts that replaces the distributor.

I have an MS2 beta processor ready for code development. It'll take longer than feb to get it running though. Hopefully not much longer though

How much in depth is the assembly part of this? And how do you know what goes where? Is this for the electronically challenged?

I'm shopping for an EMS right now and would have liked the UMS, too bad it's not ready yet. I like the idea of the assembly and knowing the ins & outs of your system, I'm a computer systems analyst so this is right up my alley. Maybe I'll wait 'til Feb rather than buying the Wolf.

Pretty much anyone with a little bit of patience and the ability to read can build one. having a friend who can show you how to solder helps, but it was designed to be very easy.

I have some pics of the assembly:

Megasquirt Pics

I'm going to do the EDIS mods and help Tofuball use that on his 7 with the dual EDIS-4 setup for leading and trailing. So basically this megasquirt is going to be his.

Talking

CURRENT STATUS of my MegaSquirting the 'vert:

Objective: To MegaSquirt a '90 Convertable, and let the MegaSquirt control Spark, Fuel, and full-time water injection. Also, to remove the stock AFM, stock CAS, stock TPS, Stock O2 sensor, and stock MAP, and use the MegaSquirt's MAP, and a TechEdge WidebandO2 Sensor , and dual EDIS-4 to handle control of spark, water, and fuel.

Related mods to this will include: Replacing the airpump with a corvette air pump, and converting AUX PORTS/VDI to the lumbar pump system. Complete removal of stock "HOSES GOING EVERYWHERE" system.

Current Status: WideBandO2 Sensor is on it's way here from Aussieland. Megasquirt unit is already assembled. New fuel pump is on its way.

UPDATE, I will also be removing my MOP (as the S5 MOP is computer controlled) and my ACV for this system.

I built a MegaSquirt last year and I'm currently bench testing it for spark output without the need for EDIS. So far, so good. I also just recently completed a small hardware mod to add cooling fan relay functionality and I'm just about to embark upon wiring up a two or three stage shift light.
