Thanks to all who gave their input on getting this car to crank. It was not a megasquirt problem. It ended up being an insufficient chassis ground. It was discovered by accident when checking for spark. MS was not showing anything on the tach at all this time. I stuck a screwdriver in the plug wire and laid it on the plenum to check. The damn thing started instantly while arching to the plenum. Picked up the arching screwdriver and it died. Confirmed that it was not some wierd fluke later.
Replaced one ground and added another. Instant starting this morning. Time for the tuning to begin.
