Story Time
I bought the car from a member at the beginning of 2020, just before Covid. Here is the original listing (Original Sales Ad).
The car was great when I received it. I drove it about 60 miles, but I noticed a few items needed to be addressed.
First, the lower coolant line leaked and needed to be replaced. No big deal.
Second, the suspension was original and in bad shape. Because of this, the car didn’t drive well, and I didn’t want to not enjoy driving it.
I embarked on the journey to replace these items.
Suspension:
After working on the suspension, I also found that the control arms, bushings, and tie rods needed attention. So, I worked on those items for several months, replacing all the bushings and cleaning the original parts. I have receipts for those items: J-Auto Pillow Ball Bushings, SuperPro Bushing Replacement Kit, rear control arms, and tie rods. I also noticed the boots on the steering rack needed to be replaced. This part took 6-9 months, as I worked on it over the weekends.
I also installed new wheels and tires as I wasn’t fond of the ones on the car.
Engine:
As I finished up with the suspension, I turned my attention to the engine. I had the itch, and replacing the coolant piping wasn’t enough. I carefully disassembled the factory setup shown in the original post. I still have all the original parts, factory twins under 1k miles, intake box, intercooler, etc.
I then purchased a turbo kit and had it sent out for ceramic coating. To install this kit, I needed to upgrade the fuel system, so I started there and purchased new injectors, 2000cc and 1000cc, new fuel rails, and a new fuel pump. The pump and fuel rails were installed but not completed, and that is where the project has stopped.
I've owned the car for about three years at this point, and during that time, it was always kept in a garage—where it still is.
Unfortunately, circumstances changed, like many things in life, and our family had to move. I didn’t have a place to store the car, so it ended up in my in-laws' garage, which remains today. We lived nearby then, but working on the car became inconvenient, and I couldn’t dedicate the time I wanted to finish the project.
I did try to finish the car before we planned to move out of state, but that plan didn’t work out. Now, I’m living in sunny Tampa, FL, while the car is still up north in Maryland.
I’ve thought about moving the car to Tampa, but I don’t have space for a project car here. Houses in Florida are much smaller, and we’re living in a much more compact space than before.
At this point, my only option is to have a shop finish the project. Unfortunately, I don’t know of any reliable shops in Tampa that I trust to handle the work. Another possibility is having the car towed to a shop in Maryland to finish it, then shipping it down to Florida. But that would take time and money, which I don’t have right now. I fear the car will sit there for another five years. It deserves to be on the road, taking tight corners, not wasting away in a garage.
So, that’s the story of the car and its journey since I first purchased it. The right buyer will have the opportunity to get it back up and running quickly and end up with a pretty sweet ride. Whether you restore it to stock or finish the single turbo upgrade, there is potential for someone with the right vision and resources to bring this car back to life.
I am sure I am missing a few parts, but you get all the boxes; no telling what treasures await.
Bad:
Besides the fact that it’s not running, it needs a paint job. It’s got the OG factory paint. There is also a tiny rust spot under the back windshield, which these cars are notorious for.
Deal details:
- No trades
- MD Title in hand
I’d recommend serious buyers shoot me a DM ask any questions you might have; we can then set up a time for a video call so that you can see the car and the parts. If you are still interested, we can schedule an in-person visit. I will not be on-site, but I will coordinate with the in-laws so that serious buyers can look.
Asking Price:
I have over 35k in this car plus hours of labor, and I know I will incur a loss on the sale. But she needs a new home. Please don’t send me lowball offers. In fact, don’t send me any offers until you have at least a video call with me.

This is a great deal folks! If I had the storage space and disposable cash I'd ****** this up right now - I'm in MD and even if I didn't finish this FD, the parts here alone would be worth it to either sell off or use to sustain my existing FD.
Sorry didn't mean this towards your listing specifically, but in general on the rx8 forums we see people burned all the time. Yet it isn't a rule for some reason.
Sorry is there a reason you aren't replying to my message above regarding me purchasing the rx7?
Apologies, I see I am a month late on this. The car is still available. If you are still interested, reply, and I will send contact info.
Thanks
