I know this is kind of a long shot, but just wanted to see if anyone might have some spare cap nuts/bolts for the sunroof. I was missing one when purchased, then another one decided to fly off while driving the other day . I've searched local hardware stores and online, but didn't find anything that would be a reasonable replacement, so figured I would see if someone might have it laying around.
Dank! [/ QUOTE]
So easy making a better stainless steal design.
Thanks for the replies! I'll check out the FB group to see if I can find him. However, if anyone happens to want to get rid of their old screws/bolts in lieu of the steel/aluminum, I'd still be interested, as I'm trying to keep my car stock where possible.
You will have to search the steel roof then. The sunroof is not mazda. The us market not the japanese market produced it.
So the glass roof is actually aftermarket and not Mazda? I was not aware of that. Well, in any case, there's still a chance that I can pick up a set from either someone whose broken their roof or upgraded to a custom solution and no longer need them.
aww what? still looks pretty good for an aftermarket roof. I need a couple buttons myself. hopefully we can find these stock buttons to complete these.
Glass "Moon" roofs were all aftermarket when Mazda introduced the Rx-7. Wasn't until around 82 that Mazda started offering one. A long while back, I remember someone sourcing them from a late model mini van or something. Can't remember right off. I've made replacements from just 1/4 - 20 carriage bolts. I have a lathe, but you could chuck them up in an electric drill and spin them to file off any raised markings and polish the heads up. Then paint them black and buy some nylon washers to go against the glass.

My car is an 84, so idk where that puts me...
Anyways, I'll try the carriage bolt for now, but the head seems to just fit over the hole in the glass, so I'm not too keen on it, definitely not as a long term solution. Planning to add a plastic spacer too to make sure the glass doesn't slide around the bolt.
