played with Hennessey Viper
My car: pfc, hks to4r all the related mods. Many weight reduction mods:no interior, bride buckets, titanium exhaust,ect.. At the time running rich, because the tuner had problems getting the car to pull topend like it should, so he left it running rich. On the street it ran fine, very fast, for around the 340 mark at 10psi. Another topic, another thread.
I live in north Atlanta. Driving on 400N for the last ten years, half of them with a rx7, I have seen my fair share of super cars roaming the streets. For instance, when the Enzo came out I saw that car sitting in traffic on three seperate ocassions. I heard the dealership up the street sold three of them. A friend of mine had the pleasure of witnessing one go threw it's gears, going about 120 in a 45 zone, right by the dealership.
Anyways, I was driving on 400s at about 10:30pm going to pick up my GF. I was driving to the left of a good old stock viper, trying to get this older fellow to do a little run. He wasn't interested. As I was side by side with this viper I noticed some lights coming up from behind a lot faster than normal. It didn't take long for him to brake behind me and pass both of us on the right. I was shocked to see another viper blow by, sounding meaner than a pack of harleys. And that is the only way I can describe what I heard. SICK! As I hit the gas to catch up I noticed the hennessey badge on the right with a few other numbers letters attached to it. He slowed up and amazingly we were the only ones on that part of the highway. I was coming up to my exit and new it had to be now. Knowing I was untuned, I only wanted to go if he went first. I guess the mazdaspeed body kit and the se37a's swayed his desicion. I was in third gear about 80mph. My nose was at his door when the explosion from his exhaust pipe hit my ears. So he had a split second jump, and probably pulled a good 2-3 car lengths by the time I was at full boost. At full boost in forth he did not pull anymore, dead even, I might have actually closed in a bit. Then again he might have eased up. We both shut down around around 140. Maybe more I wasn't looking. He slowed up and we both nodded our respect, and I was headed west. Amazing how the torque pulled his car as soon as he got on it. And just as amazing how I stayed with him like I did. I was guessing a worse defeat. Would have loved to have been tuned with some 100 in the gas tank. But loved every second of this loss.
A week later I was back at the dyno. Hoping that the extra grounds, bigger battery, and swaping out coils would help my mystery problem. It didn't. The engine gave up after 368 @14psi. Like I said another topic completely. But that is not the point. I was flipping threw the viper section of dyno sheets. And yes I see the Hennessey viper from that night. His sheet read 590hp and about the same torque. Asking the owner of the dyno shop what he had. I was told about everything possible while remaining NA. Did a quick search on yahoo found me this http://www.hennesseyperformance.com/...ctionReq=Where
