My first
I just bought my 1988 vert. It's got some issues, but I'll work them out.
Anyways, I was heading home tonight and decided to finally have a little fun with my car. I went accross town without any luck of finding anyone to race. So I pulled into a parking lot to turn around. As I was waiting for traffic, I saw a little crx heading back into town. I turned and made my way up to him and we both got caught by a redlight. I pulled up next to his car and saw someone about my age (18) with a silver crx, black hood, shiney rims and a loud muffler. About the best I'm gona get on a wednesday night at 10pm.
I throw a rev and point up as he nods. We wait for the light to turn green. Not being completely familiar with my new rx7 I rev up to 2k - 2.5k rpms for my launch. Light turns green and we're off. His bumper ends up about the middle of my door from the start. With that much of a jump on him, I wonder if he was even gona try, so I hesitate around 3.5 to see if he's gona shift... No shift. So I punch the gas again and shift just above 6k (I heard the gear ratios between 1st and 2nd are to far apart to shift much above there.) With my hesitation, his bumper stays at my door as we both shift at the same time. In second I totally pull away from him and he ends up 1.5 to 2 car lengths behind me when I shift at 7k(redline) and about 50mph. Shift up to third but at about 55mph I tap my breaks a couple times and drop back down to the speed limit of 30 (the only other people out are cops at that time of night....) seeing he wouldn't pull a flyby or even catch up to me, I drop down to 25 and when the road turns I slow way down and make a wide turn so he can catch up. No luck. Closest he came was diagonally behind me. He pulled off at a diner which normally has eclipses and stuff with body kits all custom painted.
I know the ricers don't normally stand a chance, but I figured an 1988 n/a vert with 133k miles on it would offer more of a chance to the crx. He may have let up after seeing me take him 1/2 way through 2nd gear, but I know he tried up until then cause I could hear his muffler.
