Killed a Mustang GT

I was getting on the freeway when i noticed a car almost tailgating me and then switched lanes and passed me almost inches away from hitting me. It was a 2000ish Mustang GT. I heard a good exhaust kit on it so thats all I can tell with his mods. So I caught up and did the same thing to him (It was late freeway was empty almost). So I heard him drop a gear and try to pass me so i did the same and he couldnt even keep up. I let him catch up and pass me but then I caught up and passed him again.

I know this is not a head to head race but im sure I woulda beat him on that too. This is the first time I raced anyone that was in the RWD sports car category (I lost count on the hondas and ricers lol).

Now I have a friend who has a 1998 mustang/cobra (non supercharged) with exhaust and suspension mods. What do you guys think the outcome will be if a raced him???

I did the same thing just two days ago.

Just got my FD and was rolling home (not 100% legal tags) and this mustang would not get off my butt. Well after I slowed down to 50mph on the interstate (70mph) he finally passed me and got right next to me. I heard his exhaust a saw the 15 gauges he had all over (really like 4-5) and then he dropped it and started pulling. Well new car and all I wanted to see if I could run with him and flew past him. So I slowed down and he gave me the thumbs up. Guess he now knows Rotary Power!!!!
Well, and to think I am 98% stock. Can't wait for a few mods.

I've completely decimated 2 GTs this last week in my sub-stock RX.

at highway speed im not impressed w/ the gt at. form an 80 mph roll my single cam 240sx stuck right w/ a mustang for awhile. the only thing they have is a launch from stop because of the low end power but anything besides that they fail at

Which exhaust and suspension mods? Is it a catback and lowering springs or is it a full exhaust including headers and real suspension mods. Example: upper and lower control arms, subframe connectors, drag shocks, removed front sway bar.....you get the point.

Stock those things run mid 13's with good drivers. With gears and drag radials you are looking at a high 12 second car. You better hope he isn't sandbagging. What times have you run?

Huh? Stuck with a mustang for a while. What does that even mean? Which mustang gt are you talking about?

Which body style? I don't buy it. A stock auto mustang gt in it's slowest form should still outrun a single cam 240sx by at least a second in the quarter.

LOL my mildly modded NA(147hp to the wheels) easily keeps up with the last gen gt's.......mustangs are sports cars for people who never owned a sports car, and dont know what fast really is. best part is when you get one trying to out brake or corner ya. I have had that happend twice, both times the butstangs wrecked into the outside k rail, one locked up and went right by, the other understeered straight in the wall on the outside of me. I know to ALWAYS be on the inside because understeer is a bitch.

I don't buy you keeping up with them. Run some times, post your runs and then brag until then, you are just talking. I have a 91 turbo II and it was no way near as fast as my 320 horse 01 cobra. Seriously, lets see your time slips.

Oh, Yeah, of course mustangs can't handle....it's impossible.

You are clueless on the aftermarket of mustangs. Every major manufacturer builds parts for them. Plenty of specialty companies build suspension parts for them too. Check out Griggs racing and maximum motorsports just to name a few. Baer, brembo, wilwood, and frpp all make brake kits for them.

Actually I'm not a ford lover. I'm a performance car lover. IF you weren't as dumb as I thought you were, you would know that the gt's of those years were within a half a second in the quarter with the cobra's of that year.

I am coming from both sides and trust me, there is no where near the aftermarket for 7's as mustangs.

And if ford goes belly up I guess they will take mazda with it being that they own it.

Very clever.

I admit the mustangs aren't the best driver car stock, but they are an excellent platform to build on. You get engines that built right can support over 1500 whp. With a mustang you get a canvas...and that's how I see it.

I suppose I should tell you my other car is a nissan skyline r33 gts25t....but wait...I'm a ford guy.

I agree to a point. But there isnt a stock ford bottom end that can close to 1500hp. IMO the only one might be a inline 6 from either toyota or nissan. Compare the sbc vs the sbf, not even close. For the 5.0, the rods suck, they are 2 bolt mains ( atleast 90% anyway) and they are still iron blocks with shitty flowing heads. And for the 4.6, the 2 valve is a waste, DOHC 4 valve is the best motor ford has build in decades.

I said an engine built right...stock bottom ends depends on the car. The 03 - 04 cobras have been known to support 1k horses and the new shelby gt 500 is even stronger. The SBF was a decent motor for its day, but suffers from cracked blocks at 450-500whp. Check out turbomustangs.com They have a section called the stock block chronicles showing how easy they are to break.

The Sohc 3 valve is also a good motor, surprised you didn't mention it. The 2 valves have been built to surpass 700 rwhp with ported heads. The DOHC 4.6- 5.4 was fords second best motors. The dohc 5 valve per cylinder heads they produced for fords ruff ryder truck program were vastly superior.

Of course you also didnt mention the dohc 4 valve per cyl 4.0 straight six in the falcons. They are every bit as good as the rb series with way more tq.

I forgot the 3 valve......the cobras and the gt 500 has billet rods do to the boost. Far cry from stock cast steel. Link to the 5 valve info, that is news to me.

My 01 GT has not lost to a (non-supercharged) 98 Cobra so I assume you can smoke it from what you're claiming above.

I'll admit that GTs aren't the fastet thing out there (far from it), but you'll most likely get your *** handed to you on the freeway by one that has a whistling noise coming from it. Don't get too cocky.
