89 Rx-7 Turbo II vs. 92 MR2 Turbo
Well, here's the little story. This guy with a 300zx Twin Turbo with bolt-ons and maxed PSI on stock twins has been calling out my boy and his stock 05 Sti. Then the 300zx's friend with a 90-95 MR2 Turbo with bolt-ons and upgraded turbo started calling out my boy also after defeating his own friend with the 300zx. They've been wanting to run for money, but wouldn't do it unless it was on a roll or they got a 2-3 car head start. So that never happened. Well, last night, I ran into that MR2. I figured I had to try him out and I've been itchin to run a fast car with my new 7 and know where I stand. The first two runs he would take off first, and he would have a length on me until I hit 3rd gear at 4.5k to redline and I would start pulling. The 3rd one we slowed down for the traffic to go ahead since I knew this would be the last race before it turns into a 2 lane street. I throw it in 2nd at about 4.5-5k and I haven't practiced brake boosting since I don't really like roll races so I didn't use it. Anyways, I can tell he gots the brake boosting down and he pulls instantly and I shift into 3rd gear. He pulls on me 1 1/2-2 cars until I hit full boost around 4500rpm all the way to redline and I'm right next to him and smile as I shift into 4th gear for just a split second and we both let off, brake hard and downshift for the traffic up ahead, and then it turns into a 2 lane street with a long line of traffic, so I bust a U when I got the chance and he gives me a thumbs up for the final match ending in a draw. I really want to race him again and from a dig, but by that time, I will have a better tune unlike my rich tune at the moment and a Stage 1 @ 14psi which should be around the same power I got now, but will come on a lot faster and not lag as much as the stage 3 as I experienced that night. I am however considering the BNR Stage 2 since it has stock turbo-like response with more potential.

Of course, I have upgraded injectors. I would of blown up my motor if I had 550cc. I have 1600cc secondaries. I know I would of took him if I had higher boost, but I am not a big fan of drag racing. Its fun sometimes, but I am trying to make this car a autox/road race car by sometime in summer to the end of the year. So the smaller turbo will help me a lot there. I don't have a wideband, so I can't tune it any higher. previous owner took it out. But its already been tuned(rich) for the stock boost. I am swapping it out for the stage 1 or 2 no doubt about it. I was clearly stating that at the same hp level with a quicker spool of the stage 1 or 2, I would of smoked him.

Yep the stage 3 lags pretty bad for my tastes. I'm pretty sure the stage 4s top end is great just like this one. But I plan to be on autox soon, so I'm changing setups. I might get a stage 2. still deciding.

Hey, what's up bobby, glad to see you are enjoying your new FC. Mine is coming together nicely. We have similar tastes in turbos haha, I'm going with a bnr stage 2 for sure when i can afford it. When i finally get the motor rebuilt I'll have to bring it by.

Yea, my new FC is pretty cool. Still needs a lot of work still, but I should be done by the end of this year. I'm most likely going to go with a stage 1, but Ill give it some more thought about stage 2 before i send in my core. But yea, you need to start getting that motor rebuilt and running. trust me, you'll be happy that you did. and when you do, be sure to bring it by.
