Hows it hanging people? I'm new here on rx7 club and i'd like to tell you guys a bit about myself. I am 17 years old and i have been saving money for my car since i was 15. I am very interested in cars and what you can do with them. I am in love with the idea of having my own car to have and work on as i please. For my first car i would love to have a 1988 rx7 convertable. For the longest time i was searching for that one car that i would just love. I liked beamers for a second but now i see them everywhere. I want something you dont see everyday. I have saved up almost $10,000 and i plan on doing an engine swap and many other performance upgrades on my rx7 when i get it. I want to make my car a really fast fun drive. My friend is getting his grandpas 91 5.0 mustang with quite a bit of work on it and he says that no matter what car i get and what i do to it on my budget i still wont be able to keep up....
haha I will love to see your suggestions and opinions.
Well, first, LTK, let me say it's encouraging to see financial discipline like that from any 15 to 17 year old guy. I'd hasten to add though, that you need to get a lot of "seat time" with go karts so that when you do get the car, your attempts to conquer your friend and his moose-tang don't end in misery. The 2ndgen RX-7 will always "own" that '91 Mustang in the corners and in braking, once modified, but the straight away or from a standing start will be a difficult problem to overcome....especially since 5.0 Ferd engines are now knocking on 700+ hp as a norm on the motor. No idea what your friend has but I'd highly like to suggest you build your car for you and not worry about doing late night battles seeing who's got the fastest car.
However, if you must, buy a helmet and keep it on the strip. Start blowing motors with nitrous if you just have to beat him. The rotary engine will always get to redline faster.

This is pretty inspiring... It took me about 10 more years for me to look for my "first car" like you but I'm from "the big city". I think you'll get a lotta bang for your buck starting with 10 grand like that.

dude with 10grand you will get a nice car off the bat, if i were you i would only spend say 7 of it on the car itself and spend the rest on some mods. Goodluck with it! i just got an 83 rx7 and i love it
