Teach me about RX-7's please
Hello,
The 93+ RX-7 used to be my dream car long ago, and now I am wanting one again.
Please tell me everything there is to know about reliability, common problems. Expensive to own/maintain/repair?
What do I need to do to keep it running reliably for the next 10 years or 100,000 miles assuming I buy a 93-94 with about 100k miles? I hear Rotary engines have many problems. Looking at ones that costs around $9000-13,000.
I am somewhat mechanically inclined, but I'm no mechanic. I have done basic stuff on normal cars like installed a CAI and underdrive pulley and belts on my car as well as brake pads, oil change, tune ups, engine mounts, light bulbs, and more.

you will have a hard time getting a fd to last 200k miles. It will need an engine rebuild if you plan on running it hard. Might be good preventitive maintenance to tear it down and check out what you got before you blow the engine up

i have blown up one motor and do not plan on doing it again. I had a stock ecu with full exhaust and greddy intake. It lasted for around a month of continuous running then blew up. Are you looking for a stock car or one with the reliability mods already done? I now have the same setup except added nurspec exhaust, denso fuel pump and a semi tuned pfc from rx7store and it runs good now. So if your looking for a somewhat reliable car expect to spend $1500+ on top of the stock fd you buy.
