Starting my restoration project...
I'm new to the board, but hardly new to the RX-7. Mine is an '81 GSL, bought used around '89. I drove it for a few years, but as my automotive needs changed, it saw fewer km's. In the fall of '95 I parked it under a sundeck and put a car cover over it.
A few weeks ago I lost my parking spot due to the sale of the home! So after 14 years of just sitting, I was faced with moving the car. My blog entry about that challenge along with a couple of photos is at www.nanson.org under the 'cars' category.
Long story short, the restoration project I've been putting off for the last 10 or more years is now getting started. The interior is pretty much good to go - no tears in the upholstery and no dash cracks - even the original stereo system with the separate tuner is intact. The engine started well, but with almost 100,000 miles on it, I'm thinking a rebuild might be in order. I'm thinking about Prather Racing to do that. Body is pretty solid, all things considered, but a paint job and a little rust removal will be needed. Rims need resurfacing, tires are cracked. Thirteen inch tires are evidently hard to find now...
I figure it's a pretty solid base to bring back to almost new condition.
