Spirit r

Hey guys
my name is al and I live in Toronto, just bought a spirit r from Japan should be delivered by end of July . The mods are all hks - single turbo conversion, uprated fuel pump , has mushroom, has v mount , Hks evc and has fcon vpro management. Has anybody got a similar setup and can tell me approx bhp ? My guy that bought it at auction reckons it’s somewhere between 480-550 depending on boost settings

The whole boot and back cargo bins got stripped out , any suggestions where to source some ?

A quick Googling of the EMS system shows that it is similar to an Apex'i Power FC, but the product page (https://www.hks-power.co.jp/en/produ...pro/index.html) shows a few MegaSquirt-like features too. Without proper documentation for the EMS, I cannot say for certain how feature-rich it is.

To be on the safe side, I'd like to run a Build Sheet on your car. Faking a Spirit R on the surface isn't too difficult. A few badges, some trim paint, red Recaro seats, etc, all items that can be found on Yahoo Auctions if you're decent with the Japanese language. Same thing with the Infini FC's. Lack of rear interior is a BIG red flag too, as one could say it's a Spirit R Type A (2 seats, manual transmission) when it is actually a S6 Type R (base model) with 4 seats. Sheet metal is the same for both.

To borrow a phrase from George Carlin "It's all bullshit and it's bad for ya" .

The only way to be absolutely certain is with a Build Sheet. I would hate to see that you paid for a Spirit R and got a fake. Post your Chassis/VIN number (stamped into the firewall) and I'll run a build sheet on it.

How do you mean build sheet ? The factory plate with build number and factory and engineer is in the engine bay , is that what your talking about . Bought through Rightdrive in Toronto and they have confirmed vin number and build number that is genuine spirit r . They won’t be getting paid if it isn’t !

No offense intended, but I have the Mazda dealer parts program for North America, Japan, Europe and UK/Australia. I run build sheets to determine if people selling a car are being sincere. Infini and Spirit R's command a markup over regular FCs and FDs, and there are quite a few unscrupulous people out there. I'd feel better knowing that you are receiving the exact product you paid for.

Recently, I've spotted a few cars through various Facebook groups being offered as T2s when they were swaps, including one fake 10AE. Only wa to know for certain is by running your VIN to check the MSC Code (Model System Catalog Code). For example, a base Japanese S4's code is F044, while an Infini 1 is F057. This is also how I found out about an Infini 1 Automatic (F058).

Better safe than sorry.

Awesome guys I ve just requested this from importer . He has confirmed I won’t pay for the vehicle unless this is confirmed. Apparently Mazda japan has a vin and build number match available which he has requested. Fingers crossed cause I reckon it’s a sock car !!

This is the reference VIN i use when checking for Spirit-R part numbers in the EPC. As you can see, this is a Spirit-R Type A.

Zepticon is correct. However, I take it a step further and check the MSC Code. Different options on each individual car have different MSC codes. Option groups are in the suffix. Using the S4 FC as an example:
F044-110 is the MSC code for a GT model. F044 is common to all S4s in Japan, then it is followed by Trim Group 1, followed by Option Group 1. End result is 4 lug wheels, crank windows, no rear wiper, manual transmission only, AM/FM radio with delete option (exclusive to GT models) and no A/C.
Going up a step to prefix F045/F046 yields the GT-R/GT-X models, with suffixes 110 and 210. 210 (trim group 2) adds an optional cassette deck, 5-lug wheels, power windows (if desired), rear wiper and the choice of auto (F046) or manual (F045) transmissions
Trim Group 3 in the suffix is GT-Limited, 4 is GT-Limited Special Edition and 5 is the Infini models

Had a chat with Mr Takaharu Kobayakawa a few years ago about MSC codes and the Infini 1 Automatic, he was quite impressed at how thorough I was. Even he didn't know about the Infini Auto.

FD is laid out similarly. F175 is common to all Spirit R's, F176 for Type A, F177 for Type B and F178 for Type C. This is why Spirit R key blanks all have a F175 prefix in the part number. And yes, you can get them aftermarket (Mazdatrix) and they can be cut to fit any FD. All FD key blanks are the same dimensions. S4 FC is the same deal, I could get a 10AE blank cut for my car and it would work fine.

GF-FD3S just shows that it's a S7 or S8 FD, nothing more. S6s are E-FD3S, I believe due to it being branded as Efini at the time. As for Engine number, look at the ECU. Type A's will be N3G1, same as a 280hp RS/RZ.

What worries me is the paint. I'm not 100% sure about Innocent Blue Mica being available on the Spirit R, which is why I asked for a VIN. I've seen Titanium Grey Metallic and Chaste White ones. Again, better safe than sorry.

Rx7topgun, It's dealer software, due to it being Mazda specific. I have a similar setup for Mitsubishi and Volkswagen. Had them all since 2011. Given how Spirit R's are now coming across the pond, perhaps it's time we make a registry for Spirit R owners, just like the 2nd Gen has one for 10AE's

Zepticon, thank you for the information. You seem to be a bit more well-read on the Spirit R's dealer info than I am. Still, just like there are plenty of fake GTO Judges out there that ruin it for the real ones, I'd feel better verifying it for myself just as you would too.

Check out fdrx7.com
Its an aussie forum, and they get quite a lot of JDM imports there, quite a few Spirit-Rs as well. They have a pretty good threads with lots of information bout all the special editions

I made a thread about the EPCs, check it out. I would recommend setting up a dedicated VM for each of the EPCs if you want both US and JDM.
