rx7 rz series 8 2000 boy
Hey guys...
first the pictures...this is Melbourne Australia by the way...
Its a limited edition 'rz' from Japan...series 8, so the engineers had sorted out most of the bugs and weaknesses...
and so how does it drive?...beautifully...and I had it set up for reliability and driveability...so dyno_tuned for mid-range torque(...yeah, not for power)...and car is mostly stock standard...
Things done: well the usual, cooling system fluid dumped, complete flush few times with demineralized water with engine run carefully, then same coolant(green) 50:50 ratio with redline 'waterwetter'...so less inertia and faster moving...and this handles heat much better...
better spark leads from 'rhdjapan'...turbo cooling inlet over right headlight, as in picture...
oil and filter change every 4000km or three months...bit excessive but for such fast rotating and quick responsive engines that fires twice per cycle oil working at its best I figured would be essential, and anyways I enjoying hanging out with the rx7...etc
thing of note...fuel consumption dramatically increased with strong smell at exhaust, and usual popping and backfiring but louder on off accelaration, after about 50,000km and on...and eventually found the culprit, the stock ecu...which programmed to increase fuel load with increasing kilometers...apparently to compensate for wear of apex seals, and of course to use excess fuel to cool engine...so Apexi ecu and dyno and now get 10km/l citydriving...
disaster...as always it just takes one f@*% W)%#@ to mess up a thing of excellence in engineering...climbed an kerb island with left rear wheel taking the hit...since rear on power didnt feel right...cutting long story short, the diff is held by two oil filled bushes and I had broken one, so made the whole rear geometry unstable...but by the time this was discovered most of the bushes of the rear wheel had extra play in it...so replaced those fluid filled diff bushes, and the mechanic 'claims' that during the test drive the clutch burned out...yeah, I know...crap. Anyway he wanted to replace the clutch kit with similar, which requires gearbox, powerplant frame dismantling...then when I got the car back it felt like there was lot of rolling resistance, mechanic claimed this was usual and will settle after few hundreds...it didnt...long story short...powerplant frame not properly set, then used air ratchet to force bolts in...the misalligned driveshaft caused f)&$# ups of gearbox output shaft and diff primary bearings, and driveshaft cv joints...
anyways...some $30,000 later, as you can see in the last picture, gearbox still out(the blue tarp is covering exhaust system and ppf), diff replacement installed...and now saving money to get the final repairs...sigh...sometimes I wish I became a mechanic...
let you know how this go...
sam
Ps~mechanic never gave me a bill, even after showing up with cash to pay and collect the invoice...so cant prove the damage he caused...so cant do anything to recover costs...destructive jealousy me thinks of it...
