CA Rx7 owner "Ross" In Nor-Cal

Hi, My name is Ross and I have an Rx7 with a drinking problem. I hope I can smog it soon. I traded my perfectly running 91 Toyota Celica GT with a bent steering rack for this Rx7 N/A with a salvage title and no Catalytic Converters. Its been a quest and the car keeps sitting. I will need help with the throttle body and I am re-doing the Vacuum Lines. I don't have internet but I will be around. Hopefully someone good with smogging will help. I will work on getting this account profile better tomorrow. Hopefully I can post somewhere soon because I have no idea what I am doing with this throttle body thing.
Thank You,
Ross

Reading the rules helps you get your post count up if you follow the info.(yellow colored threads up top)
Then you can post in other sections that require the minimum post count for that section.
Welcome to the Triangular side of life Ross.

I am in Santa Rosa (Sonoma County). Sorry I didn't respond faster I do not have internet at the moment because it is all going into trying to smog this car and get it registered before the fix it ticket for $900 hits (April 14th). I will try to fill out that questionnaire as well.

So, I filled out the questionnaire. Sorry it took so long. Please delete any unnecessary posts in this thread and forgive me.

1. My Favorite Rotary car is the Rx7 FD (any 1992-1999 Rx7 s6, s7, s8). They are just way too expensive. So I Traded a 1990 Toyota Celica for this S5 N/A to learn how to build an engine similar to the engine in the 787B to put it in the Datsun 240z and tear up some asphalt.

2. The Best thing about an Rx7 is the rear wheel drive combination with fully independent suspension.

3. I came to this site because I had searched a lot on Bing for help with my car. This site showed up mostly, so I wanted to join this one.

4. I may go to rotary events if they were within 50 miles (or at Sonoma raceway) if there are machinists there who build custom engines.

5. I do not like porting at the moment. I like to keep things stock and legit until I can make more money at a career.

6. I have not done any modifications to the car yet, I am just trying to get it street legal/smogged and so I can deal with it as a daily driver. My first mod will have to be suspension as mine is bent. I will also be looking into getting some back seats in my Rx7 to make it into a 2+2 so my friends can ride with me.

7. I have drifted the car in the rain but that's only where it feels safe. I successfully made a U turn while spinning the wheels and lined the car up correctly. I also got on the freeway successfully with the backend sideways. I know its illegal I just needed to see if I had it in me. I will be going to Sonoma Raceway Parking Lot Drift Nights when I get some money for tires. My throttle response is not good right now and I don't think my Rx7 Fc3s N/A will drift well in dry weather.

I hope this questionnaire works okay. Am I supposed to post it in here not on the questionnaire thread right?

Right on. I bought Roxanne in Campbell. Could you guys inform me when I can post to the forums? I have a lot of questions and the guy on ebay that was selling Viton Check valves for Rx7's isn't selling them anymore. I really need to get these cheaper versions because $40 for one OEM check valve off of Mazda Trix or $20 for four check valves. I just ordered my Silicone Vacuum lines from Mazda
I will let you know how it goes with the shipping. I haven't done much research on replacing the lines and I think I may have to get into the "Rats Nest" in the manifold or something .
Anyway, Please the approval would be good.
Thanks,
Ross

PM DaleClark. If I remember correctly he's the guy who was selling those viton ones. Also, no need to buy a new cat from Mazda for a gajillion dollars. A Bonez cat will pass smog.

Good luck with the FC! Once you get it running right, you'll be 100% stoked on your trade.

PM me if you need another rotorhead to take a look at it for ya.

I'm about to slap on my exhaust with cat to smog. After I pass, you can borrow it if you'd like. I'm in sacramento. I just need to get some gaskets before putting them on the car

Awesome, Thanks for the warm welcome gentlemen. I will defiantly obey all the rules in the tech forums. You guys are the first ones to support me on the Celica for Rx7 trade. Since I got the car she's been a lot of trouble but, I am starting to think it was worth it. I'm glad you guys agree.

of course you'll get support on the trade here. it's rx7club! but seriously, these cars were ahead of their time. aluminum control arms, multi link suspension, aluminum bodied 4 pot monoblock calipers with disc in the rear. just to name a few. and the rotary powerband is just sooo smooth.
the na makes a great drift machine too. a light weight flywheel and exhaust will make a huge difference

Yes, I am a happy owner now. I finally received my package from Mazda
The Kit was alright but a lot of hose (Like water hose) that I didn't need. I did appreciate the cigar cutter to slice the 100% silicone 3mm tubes and the grease for the lines. The diagram instructions included were useless.

Daleclark said to go to Silicone Vacuum Hose : BoostController.com LLC - America's Source for High quality turbo boost controllers, silicone hose, and more performance products - 877-836-6155- precision boost control. Turbosmart Warehouse Distributor for better lines.

I ended up ripping my 6pi system apart and cleaning because it stuck. I will make a post today and search to see what all of the "Hard to find" and "Dealership only" parts are. It's interesting that parts stores forget about some important parts.

How is the trading on this forum via paypal? As I understand a lot of the parts for these cars are expensive to buy through corporations but cheap to buy from enthusiasts and moderate from dismantlers.

Find what you like and want. Make sure seller is legit, check their recent posts and sell threads for feedbacks from other buyers. Contact the seller and let them know you want an item. Usually if it is available, the seller sends his PayPal address to you. Pay and hope that the seller provides a tracking number. PayPal usually display the usps tracking to both parties on paypal.com if they bought shipping postage online

Hey again everybody, I figured I would share the good news. My 1990 RX7 GXL passed California emissions test. Now I can start working on other things with it like driveline and suspension. Thanks to everyone who helped. I will keep helping back.
